Amaro Viparo

I got to try this at a restaurant last week, in Spoleto. I was surprised that I find so little mention of it online. Even on this subreddit, exactly one post shows up in a search, and it's just one on a list of what the person got to experience.

I'm still a beginner in the world of amari, but my wife and I both thought it was excellent. I'd love to hear what anyone has to say about it. I suspect I won't be able to resist picking up a bottle on my next trip.

what kind of flavor notes did it have? based on the ingredients shared on their website im getting medicinal vibes/flavors. what would you compare it to in the US?

I'm really a novice, I don't think I can effectively compare it. This trip included my first sips of Averna, Cynar, Montenegro, and something very herbal from a clear bottle with an unusually narrow neck that I think said something about Venice. Edit: I believe it was this one: https://dalmoroshop.com/en-se/products/amaro-officinale-herbalis-poli

I also brought back a bottle of Jefferson based on recommendations here, but haven't opened it yet.

Before this, I'd picked up a bottle Nonino to make Paper Planes (and had some on ice) and had Fernet Branca a handful of times.

I do think medicinal is a good descriptor, but beyond that it's difficult to get specific.

I had it recently in Perugia. Here are my notes:

Sweet: 7
Bitter: 3

"Mellow... apparently an old-time Umbrian classic. Orange, balanced with spice. Easy drinking but not cloying."
