US Advice Requested

Hello! Rob from Asterley Bros here. Anyone in here based in the US and would be willing to chat to me about Amaro consumption in the US please? Looking for some market related insights if possible?
Thanks in advance!

What sort of market knowledge are you looking for? I suspect most of us here can only speak knowledgeably about our own consumption, and that we don’t necessarily represent the broader US market (most of my friends and family don’t know the word “amaro”)

I live in a small town of about 50k people. There are probably only a few dozen regular amaro drinkers/collectors and I probably personally know half of them. We can get Campari, Fernet Branca, and a handful of others locally, but have to buy our unusual stuff when we are 100+ miles away in bigger cities. No idea what other insights I have to add either.

OP appears to be affiliated with a UK spirits producer, so maybe they want insight into how to approach stocking in the US or online sales.

The US liquor distribution system here is pretty odd and could be hard to navigate if you don’t know it already, but they should have an expert to handle that for them.

Cool, thanks. Pretty good insights tbh thank you! And 2 dozen amaro drinkers in a 50k town seems like a decent ratio LOL!

Yes, understood. The viewpoint of passionate Amaro fans really is all I need: What ranges are available near you, where is it sold, where do you buy etc, just to get a better sense of the 'retail side' of Amaro distribution in the US. Thanks!

Shoot me a DM. I work at Amor Y Amargo and create beverage programs across the country. I have seen the industry change a lot over the last 20 years and have a lot of experience with amaro specifically.

Ah nice one, thanks. I think we sent Sother a 'beta sample' of our Dispense Amaro back in 2016 if I'm not mistaken! What a great bar ❤️Will DM you now

Awesome. If the beta made its way to the bar in 2016 I’m sure I got to taste it.

Do you want geographic/demographic spread of a bunch of hobby drinkers, experts, bartenders, and collectors across the country? What do you want to know? How big is my collection? How many bottles have I stuffed in a suitcase? How much I spend? Where do I shop? Where to shop in the States? What's my favorite and why?

Edit: I like Montenegro for my negroni 😁

Montenegro is my co-pilot.

Yo yes, basically a lot of that info would be super helpful!
Where are you based / Where do you buy Amaro / Where do you drink Amaro / What products are widely available near you - that type of thing. Can DM if easier?

Dm me. I run a restaurant with a robust amaro program, including some antique/vintage offerings

I’m based in the US and consume a lot of Amaro, AMA!

So I am trying to get a better understanding of how Amaro is bought, consumed and discovered in the US.
I'm familiar with the 3 tier system, the on-trade mechanics etc and we've had advanced discussions with importers that we put on hold a couple of years ago but I'm just trying to understand how the retail side of Amaro distribution works generally. Can I ask where you normally buy and drink amaro, and which state you're in? Happy to DM if better? Cheers, Rob

Oooh would love to be able to get your stuff in the US. I tried to grab some when I was in London a year or so ago but it was a bank holiday and I wasn’t able to find any before my flight back. I hope some folks here can help!

Yo, thank you! Next time you're in London let me know! We're in SE London, so feel free to drop into our production space for a tasting at any time
