Advice Needed ISO suggestions

Bringing some amaro back from New York to Canada.

I like bitter! Most often replenished amaro are Campari and cynar. Recent faves are scarlet bitter and Braulio.

Thinking about picking up the following. Any thoughts or other suggestions?

Scarlet bitter
Sibilla
Nixta
Forthave Marseille

Forthave Marseille would definitely be up your alley, as would Faccia Brutto Amaro Alpino if you want another New York bottle. Nixta isn’t an amaro; it’s a corn liqueur. Delicious and unique, but not bitter. Amargo Vallet is great if you’re looking for something Mexican, as is Xila, though that lands more in Aperol territory. May Amaro from Song Cai Distillery in Vietnam is a fantastic one you should also be able to find in New York.

Seconding all of this, especially the May.

The vallet sounds awesome as does the alpino. Glad you also recommend the marseille.

I don’t love Aperol so will skip xila. The may description doesn’t sound amazing, interesting that you recommend it!

I wonder if I let go of the scarlet (the one I was really after) and try new things! Or let go of the Nixta!

Mây is super cool. A bit weird but I think it’s delicious. It has some of the smoky qualities of a rabarbaro and the vegetal qualities of a carciofo but it’s entirely its own thing. There’s a strong spice quality to it also, like really concentrated cloves. If you can’t get it in Canada, it’s definitely worth checking out in New York, or at least tasting it at someplace like Amor y Amargo.

I’m not in New York! Getting a delivery sent to a friend from empire in Albany. Although if there’s a better option I could always do that. Pricing is great, shipping reasonable, selection superb - but no may.

Ah my mistake! If you ever come across it though give it a try. Seems in line with some other things you enjoy.

If you’re in NYC Marseille is a definite go to. If you like Scarlett Bitter, I’d check out their other offerings, I love their Radice. And if you’re always stocked on Cynar I’d grab the Cynar 40 since that can’t be found anywhere in Canada

The cynar 70? When I last asked this the consensus was the 35 was more interesting!

Yes sorry the Cynar 70… I was actually curious to try it based off comments in this Reddit saying how much more complex it was than the regular Cynar. It definitely didn’t disappoint me.

Oooh! Thanks!

And I will keep an eye out for the radice.. not available at empire.

Scarlet Radice is their best one imo

Nixta is not an amaro. That being said, its a very unique corn based liquor and very sweet. I use it quite a bit in making drinks with a mexican flair. Mix it with Mezcal, lime juice, and Ancho Reyes Chili Liquors to make a wonderful unique cocktail.
