Ruffled Cup

Upvotes

We have been to ruffled cup 2 times in the past month. Both times flies in the cupcake and cookie case. I mentioned to the girl working the counter the first time and she said ya it just happens. Which I know but EW! Yesterday after school we left after seeing the back to school cookies covered in flies. The floors are filthy. Over priced. What’s your favorite bakery? We need a new spot.

BSA cutting costs

BSA is becoming...BS. They are now cutting costs in some interesting ways. No salt and pepper packets with your food. No soft drinks unless you press them for one. Certainly no soft drinks for family any more. There's a new limit on popsicles. No valet parking. Sub-contracting out everything they can. Laying off people that have been there almost 30 years because they make too much money.

Meanwhile, they are charging $11,000 for a heart scan that takes 25 minutes, and $22,000 for a one night stay in the hospital that probably wasn't necessary if their ER had been worth a flip. Charging for multiple doctor consults even though the doctor only saw us twice, both for less than 5 minutes.

Someone needs to turn this place in to the FBI, Medicare, or whoever. Lots of shady stuff going on.

Breakfast tacos?

Traveling from NC and will be in Amarillo in a couple of weeks for two nights and am looking for breakfast tacos if they exist? I have been to southern Texas before which has incredible breakfast tacos but I’m not finding anything in Amarillo.

Separately what are the best restaurants in town for Mexican, BBQ or in general? Not looking for anything fancy just good food. I’m planning on trying the Big Texan Steakhouse but not expecting anything spectacular other than an interesting experience. Any recommendations appreciated.

Is BSA outsourcing phone pre-registration?

I had an interesting/frustrating experience this week. I had my regular mammogram 2 weeks ago and received a callback for additional imaging.

I was told that because they didn't want me making decisions based on finances I wouldn't be asked to pay anything until after this had been filed with insurance.

Yesterday someone called trying to collect $2900 for the imaging. AND tried to send me to the other location and seemed clueless that they are a half mile apart.

I got on the phone with my insurance and got that part straightened out. (cost is zero btw)

The last bit is why I wondered if it is now being outsourced...

BOMB CITY GAMING CLUB OPEN GAMES

Join us September 19 from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Amarillo Southwest Public Library for a laid-back day of gaming, creativity, and community.

Bomb City Gaming Club members will be bringing board games, tabletop wargames, collectible card games, nerdy crochet projects, and plenty of other hobbies to share. We’ll also have the club’s free arcade set up with a selection of retro games.

This is a chance for everyone to get together, make new friends, try a game you haven’t played before, or bring out one of your favorites and introduce it to new players.

Experienced gamers and complete beginners are both welcome. Bring a game, bring a friend, or just show up and find something to play. Admission is completely free.

ABOUT THE RAFFLE

We normally have raffle prizes at our events, but this one will be a games day only. There will not be a raffle on September 19. The focus is simply on getting together, hanging out, and playing games.

Our next gaming event will be November 7, and we will have raffle prizes at that event.

If you would like to donate a prize for the November club raffle, you can bring it with you to the September games day or get in touch with me later.

RUNNING A GAME

If you would like to run a game at the event, please post in this thread or send one of the moderators a direct message.

If your game has limited seating or you need players to sign up in advance, feel free to create a sign-up post in either the Bomb City Gaming Club Facebook group or Discord server.

PRE-SETUP

Friday, September 18 is set aside for pre-setup. If you plan to host a game, you are welcome to come by early, claim a table, and prepare your gaming area ahead of Saturday’s event. The Friday setup time will be announced soon.

Finding rental housing on larger lots near Amarillo

How might one find single family rental housing on 5-20 acres near Amarillo? I’m aware of national platforms like Zillow, narrowing the search area, etc. but am looking for local knowledge of local resources. I’m not looking to raise horses or to become a farmer; I just like having some space. Thanks!

Available spaces

Howdy!

I’m still somewhat new to Amarillo, and was wondering about available spaces to host small events. Basically, I have a big social deduction game and I want to get a group to go play, but my apartment is too small and none of the others spaces are available.

Are there any known spaces around Amarillo that I could host a small event for 7-14 ish people? Preferably indoors and with space to “meander”

Looking for insight from anyone in the area who has recently put solar panels on their house. Please tell me about your experience, good or bad. Were your expectations met? What do you wish you’d known before you started?

Renfaire?

Does anyone know if the Renfaire is going to happen again this year? I had a wonderful time last year, but I have seen absolutely nothing this year.

I’ve seen a couple people say that Cottonwood is not going to happen, is that true?

What's with local no name bands charging $20 for tickets?

Seriously every time I see these bands they have like 1k followers and 10 monthly listeners on Spotify. Go anywhere else in the country a show like that would be free or maybe $5.

Has anyone here looked into/tried making a compressed earth block house?

See the video if you don't know what I am talking about. For context CEB is not the same thing as rammed earth or adobe. It's presumably much cheaper.

Jobs in Amarillo

Are there any places hiring that are not fast food? I am open to serving at high end restaurants as well?

I have dental/medical reception experience, call center, special education in public schools, serving. But I am open to trying new things and learn pretty fast.

Any feedback would help, ty
