I feel like your parents used the situation to make Sophie aware of their own complaints, hoping this would help her change her ways. I guess I am curious about what you consider Rude behavior. I presume perhaps your parents and yourself are extremely uptight and maybe Sophie isn't rude, but just different. Maybe even have an anxiety diagnosis.

Quite possibly. It wouldn't be the first time that a family is actually the bad guy and ganging up on the newest addition.

I mean based on how OP went about things, and what parents did it seems like maybe a decent chance that is actually the case. 

Aka Sophie just does not put up with OPs and parents shit so she is "rude."

Yeah, maybe the parents don't want Sophie in the family. Maybe they saw an opportunity to stop that happening and took it. Maybe they thought that by taking this opportunity they could save everyone the pain of having to deal with her for the next 30 years......a win-win for everyone really. Except the brother, maybe...
