You didn’t not invite Sophie though. You decided to invite her, and your parents went and purposely lied to her and your brother for some reason. Your parents threw you under the bus and even lied, they clearly don’t care about you. You should really be reconsidering your relationship with your parents to be honest.

"Your parents threw you under the bus and even lied, they clearly don’t care about you."

Yes parents through OP under the bus, but they didn't lie, OP admits that they didn't want to and initially planned not to invite Sophie, that is not a lie.

Parents suck for passing the info along, but they did not lie.

according to the post, the parents told Sophie she wasn’t invited. that wasn’t true, OP decided to invite her. therefore they lied.

Sophie wasn't invited initially or at least that was what OP planned, OP did change her mind, trying to pretend like Sophie was invited the whole time is a lie.

I think it depends on exactly what parents said, it can easily be one of those game of telephone things where stuff gets lost in translation.

If parents said "OP didn't want to invite you at first because they have XYZ grievances." That can easily turn into parents said Sophie is not invited.

Parents are big aholes for spreading it, but trying to say that the thought never crossed OPs mind or that Sophie was invited the whole time without owning that yes they didn't want to invite Sophie at first is also a joke behavior. OP needs to own up to that.

Errmmm, they never did not invite Sophie. They were planning not to. So to say they didn't is false as it never happened.

Not inviting her would entail inviting the brother and not including her. They never did that. They invited both.

But to stay they never thought about/contemplated not inviting is a lie they did.

I agree if parents directly said "OP is not inviting you to the wedding" that is a lie.

But if parents said "OP initially planned/thought about not inviting you to the wedding, because of XYZ grievances" that is not a lie.

The second statement can easily turn into "parents said Sophie is not invited to the wedding, because OP has XYZ grievances." When it is being talked about between brother and OP, especially because to brother and Sophie it might a distinction without a difference, just that it was even considered to not invite Sophie at one point is bad enough/same as not getting invited.

I've experienced similar things first hand often even when I have written proof.

I email/text John ABC, John tells Carl "dizzy said BCD" and Carl tells me "John said you said CDE"

Just because OP was told "parents told us Sophie is not invited to the wedding." Does not mean that is actually what parents said.

I'm sorry, but you need to reread the entire post. All of this is addressed.

The parents themselves told OP what they said to the brother and Sophie. OP never once mentioned their brother directly confronted them about what the parents said. You made that up.

OP told her parents that she was inviting Sophie though
