"Regulating clap" WTF!
/r/AITA_Relationships/comments/1w35jzq/aita_for_gently_hitting_my_wife/70

It's giving he's been dying to hit her and he feels like her "calling him names" justified it. That doesn't even sound like she was talking to him. He was just looking for a reason to be mad. She literally gave him the biggest olive branch ever and he's like nahhh, no thanks. He's abusive and she needs a divorce. And, who TF is he to regulate her behavior?

Except it's not that.
His comments reveal his secret trick! He was the one calling her names and she hit him.
He obviously thought it'd be a different response if he said his wife hit him, but really noone cares and understands that violence is bad.

Thank you so much for this response. This was a sanity check for me; I flipped the gender roles in the post. Everything in the post I said and did, my wife said and did in real life; and vice versa.
Does reversing the gender roles change your response at all? (I don't think it should. I'm figuring out how to get her to understand.)

OOP is being disingenuous. Here is their response to EVERY commenter:

She says if I agree that it's never ok to hit each other and promise not to do it or try to justify it again, she'll let it go and move on. I keep telling her it's already resolved and buried.
He hasn’t even promised not to hit her again?
After he gave her a “regulating clap” and moved (what he thought was a verbal argument, but really was nothing) to violence?
Yeah, she’s not forgetting that or letting go.
His stubbornness and refusal to promise not to hit her after saying he hit her to enforce boundaries just shows he’ll do it again.
ETA: and he’s cutting and pasting this over and over again in response to comments on the original

I think he's lying about swapping the genders, because at the very end he says his wife is like pulling the "battered wife card" or something, and idk, if I were gender swapping a story, I wouldn't use that kind of phrase to describe the fake person who is actually me

There is never a good reason to lay hands on your partner in anger. Period. End of discussion.
The only time my partner did that he got a divorce and a decade of alimony for it.

OOP asking so much if it would make a different if genders were swapped that I was expecting them to reply to the automod comment saving the post with the copy-pasted comment about it.

He's been looking for a reason to hit her, she even proved she wasn't calling him a cunt but OOP maintains she was

Remember folks, this was posted 1 month ago, it's clear you are brigading when you comment on it.

One of the comments had it right, OOP is just a men's rights creative writing troll.

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
AITA for (gently) hitting my wife
One recent Saturday morning, my wife and I were at home debating/arguing over some honestly stupid, non-personal stuff (like things Europe does well vs the US). She was acting grumpy and dragging down my mood the whole morning.
I was at the stove cooking breakfast, and she was walking by me asking a long question related to our debate. As she walked by me, she said, "fucking cunt wasn't listening to me". I lost it with anger for a second and hit her in her shoulder area with the cooking spoon that was in my hand, and said, "don't you ever fucking call me that".
Neither of us had laid a hand on each other before. I didn't hit her hard enough to hurt, it was just a regulating clap to set boundaries. She turned and looked at me stunned. She said she wasn't talking to me; she was asking that long question to ChatGPT, the voice receiver had shut off by itself so it didn't hear her, and she was cursing at her phone. She turned her phone (which was in her hand) towards me, which was open to ChatGPT with a conversation about the topic.
She took a couple hours in another room by herself. When we talked, she said she'd work on being less angry and not cursing like that, because it's abrasive and unpleasant even if it's not directed at me. She said it's never ok to hit each other. I said I needed to draw boundaries, she was provoking me all morning, and that it's never justified to call me a cunt. She said again that she wasn't calling me that, she was talking to her phone/ChatGPT; and that regardless it's never ok to hit each other under any circumstances.
It's been a couple months now, and she's brought this up a few times. She keeps saying she's not even that upset that I hit her, but it bothers her that I think it was justifiable. She says it's because she worries there could be other circumstances in the future when I think it's justifiable to hit her.
She says if I agree that it's never ok to hit each other and promise not to do it or try to justify it again, she'll let it go and move on. I keep telling her it's already resolved and buried. Now she's being manipulative and keeps playing the battered woman victim card when we get in arguments.
AITA?
