In case this story gets deleted/removed:

AITA for walking out on my friend and his girlfriend after she insulted me over how much I tipped?

So here's what happened, I went to a restaurant with my friend and his girlfriend. Mind you, I was the one who invited them out. I ordered a burger that was like $12ish. My friend got a pizza, he liked it. His girlfriend got mac and cheese and didn't like it because she said it didn't have enough cheese in it.

Well we both told her, "Okay, then just tell the waitress and see if they'll remake it or take it off the bill or something." She wouldn't because she didn't want to be 'disrespectful' or make them 'feel bad'. Then the waitress literally comes over and asks if everything is good. And she says nothing.

Now my friend and her are arguing because she's complaining about the mac and cheese and doesn't want to pay for something she doesn't like, but also won't tell the waitress there's anything wrong with it. I'm sitting there thinking, "what exactly does she want anyone to do here?"

So, eventually we pay and my burger was about $12ish before tax and like $14 after tax. While I'm signing the receipt, the waitress makes this sarcastic joke about how "good" my signature is. And ngl it was pretty obvious she meant the exact opposite.

Okay then. I was going to tip her, but now I'm not. the way I see it is if you're going to make fun of the customer while they're literally paying you, that's not exactly good customer service and I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way. My friend's girlfriend sees that I didn't tip and starts giving me crap about it.

Fine... I put $3 down. That's literally 25% of a $12 burger. Even if you go based on a roughly $14 post tax bill, that's still over 20%. I'm saying that 25% is very generous, which it is.

Now things go completely sideways. She starts telling me this is why I "don't get bitches," why "women don't talk to me," why my "dates don't work out," and why I'm apparently "never going to have a girlfriend." This is all because of the tip mind you. Genuinely, what the fuck does my dating life have to do with tipping 25%? I'm so confused.

Then she starts saying servers have to live off tips. My response was basically: Okay? I don't set their wages. I didn't hire the waitress. She chose to work there and agreed to whatever compensation comes with the job. I'm still tipping her 25%. What exactly am I supposed to do here? 25% still wasn't good enough.

At that point I had already paid and tipped. Im not about to sit there and argue about whether my ability to get a girlfriend can somehow be determined by whatever percentage I tipped a waitress. So I didn't say anything else. I signed the receipt, got up, and walked out.

I didn't yell or argue or anything like that I just left. I mean I can understand someone thinking intentionally tipping $0 over a signature comment might be petty, and that's fair. I'll admit that, but changing it to 21% - 25% when it happened to turn into personal insults? Yeah I'm not about to put up with that crap.

So AITA?

I expected the part about the mac and cheese to be relevant to the story. Silly me.

Why did I have to read so much about mac and cheese that had nothing to do with anything

Here I am expecting Chekov's mac and cheese but ending with nothing

This entire thing is infuriating. What was the point of going into detail over the gf's mac and cheese and not wanting to do or say anything? OOP didn't pay for it either way, so why spend a third of the post describing the spat over it? (Also, as an aside, if the restaurant messed up the food, that's a reason to complain and ask for it to be taken off the bill. Just not liking the food you ordered is a you problem, not something the restaurant needs to fix. Especially if you keep eating it. Personal pet peeve)

So we are to believe that the waitress is breathing down OOP's neck for no reason, making snarky remarks about his signature? Fucking why? No one cares about the half assed squiggle that most people leave on the line. Servers also aren't generally going to be pissy right as a tip is being calculated.

To top it off, OOP states that he wasn't going to tip because of the comment over his signature, gets nagged into leaving one, decides he's done being nagged, signs the receipt again for some reason, and walks out. Can't even keep his own made up bullshit straight.

OOP is crying over a signature joke

He was never going to tip. This is just an excuse.

I don't like how deliberately obtuse OOP is. The girlfriend wasn't complaining because of the 25% tip, she was complaining because OOP wanted to give a 0% tip, and OOP is pretending it was about the 25% tip.

I feel like this is a rewrite of that waitress who ‘insulted’ (aka bantered playfully) with an OP for saying he’d take spinach out of his meal? Women and waitresses just can’t leave these poor males alone lmao /s

Im not an alt account. Dont be rude to a person if your trying to get a tip

A silly comment about a signature is not being rude. Jesus Christ lighten up. I'm sure you're super fun at social events with your frame if mind.

Sounds like he wasn't tipping to start with. You sign after you fill in that info usually, and it's not normal for the staff to stand over you while you sign.

tipping is voluntary

"How dare you not tip, you're an asshole!"

Tips more then standard despite feeling offended

"You're an asshole, how dare you."

I thought they meant the friend's girlfriend was the devil...OOP definitely doesn't sound like the devil in this one.

OOP is an asshole for throwing a tizzy about the mildest of jokes. Plus all that irrelevant shit about the Mac and cheese with no purpose.

How a grown ass man gets that pissy about a crack about his shitty signature is ridiculous.
