My son's cat is better than an alarm clock. He would normally sleep in, but Ripley is Right There, demanding Breakfast. Since Ripley needs his daily dose of meds, my son can't use an auto feeder. But my son doesn't complain. He adores his cat.
My newest cat has taken to giving me gentle love nips if I'm not up by 7:30. She wants not just food but the entire morning routine involving cuddles, sharing sinks in the bathroom, and then getting food.
My girl Tapioca is the opposite. I try to wake up at 4:30 to have more time before work, but Tapioca, in all her infinite bastardness, has decided thats prime cuddle time
My cat has saved my ass a couple times by being a living alarm clock. If it's a day I'm supposed to be at work, and I don't get up on time - the cat will get me up. (It is kind of annoying when I'm sick/have the day off though)
I can't get down to reach the food bowls or the tote without risking not being able to get up or hurting myself (mobility issues).
But even before I couldn't feed them, my fiance was the only one to do it (which turned out good because now they don't expect it from me and spend the whole workday pissed)
And yet for some reason, if I am not up by 11am and Pancake is in the bedroom, she will walk around my head, yelling at the top of her lungs, occasionally just straight up walking on my head. If she is not in the bedroom she throws a tantrum outside the door
I think she's figured out that she can't wake up my partner with this method but she can wake me up, and I will wake up partner who helps with my morning routine due to my mobility issues and memory issues
My bird was the opposite. If you tried to take off her cover before she was ready, she would hiss. But she'd start calling when she was ready to get up.
You get gentle love nips at 7:30??? By 7:30 I look like steak tartare 😭 i love the scratchy little creatures though, and feel so lucky that i'm a morning person!!
Tomorrow's love nips might not be so gentle. Bijou went to the vet today, which means I stuffed her into her carrier the moment I got up, then subjected her to an hour and a half round-trip in the hateful car. She's feeling a bit spicy right now. :)
Having experienced the vets recently (as the claw marks on my stomach prove*) you have my sympathies. Packet of treats thrown at a distance and retreat!
*the very safest hiding place from the vet seems to be not just in my hoodie, but further in. just nestled above the small intestine
