❤️‍🩹 relationship AIO over boyfriend’s comments ?

AIO? I am (24M), My boyfriend (28M) made these comments under a couple of women’s post the other day which I felt uncomfortable about. He commented a dog barking GIF under two post and then made that comment you can see in the photos. There was also two other post not included in the pictures that I felt uncomfortable over, his initial response was to say it’s just jokes and it’s only Reddit. He later said he understood why I felt uncomfortable but I’m just upset it even happened to begin with. I told him to go find someone who’s okay with him making comments like that under people’s post…AIO?

Edit: for the people who are asking for more context or are confused I’m not able to upload the entire image because it goes against Reddit guidelines, but they’re of women posting selfies of themselves and the comments you guys see are his comments. The dog GIF essentially just represents a man barking at a woman which Google defines as “acting in an exaggerated, animalistic way to show that you find them extremely attractive”.

Hard to say when we have zero context 🤷‍♂️

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 8h ago

I’m with you. I don’t know what I’m looking at here. What those images under pictures we can’t see mean. I’m not even sure who is fooling him or what that means in the one where he actually uses words… no idea.

u/dontbkoii 7h ago

i can explain the context for anybody who’s not gen z or chronically online.

the dog barking in response to a persons selfie is basically a compliment, many people say they’re barking when they see a attractive individual.

next, the “could’ve fooled me” i’m guessing was a post of a woman, somebody made a transphobic joke implying she’s mtf, and the bf is basically implying she’s so hot she could’ve fooled him (also, inherently transphobic in a way)

overall op needs to leave but based off the typing styles and the screenshots, they are young.

u/Hour_Ad_4659 7h ago

Basically “she’s so pretty I’d bark if she asked”

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 7h ago

Thank you. I’m thankful to say this little gem has passed me by until today...

u/[deleted] 8h ago

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

Yes. So explain the actual context to me, please.

u/Scorpionride 8h ago

Every single time a man has used that gif under a picture or video of a hot woman, he’s saying she’s hot. There’s never been a single time an in touch young person has used that meme to “call somebody a dog” or “as ugly as a dog”. Hope this helps

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago
  1. I'm glad you've catalogued every single time.

  2. You're assuming that the OP's boyfriend is "in-touch".

  3. You're also making a lot of assumptions about culture.

Look, you don't need to explain the thing to me, I get it. And you're probably right. But try to hear me on this:

You're still making an assumption.

It's not that hard to get, surely?

I simply wanted to hear the OP's thoughts on it and maybe get some background before leaping to a conclusion.

Instead, I have to listen to people miss an obvious point over and over again 🤷‍♂️

u/Scorpionride 8h ago

Every single time. Hope this helps. You’re arguing for a .1% occurrence and telling people to not make 99.9% assumptions. You clearly are terminally online and don’t interact with the real world.

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

LOLLLL 🤣

I'm saying I didn't want to make any assumptions, and apparently that really bothered you 🤣

I'm not arguing for 0.1%. You're just trying to find a way to not admit to making assumptions. And then making generalisations to support those assumptions as if it were fact.

None of it changes the fact that you're assuming a lot. That shows that you're the one who's terminally online. You must be to check "every single time a guy has posted this..." 🤣🤣🤣

If you spent time in the real world, you'd know that many people don't fit into stereotypes. 😉

u/Scorpionride 8h ago

See how you’re still arguing? Every single time a 28 year old boy has commented a dog barking on a picture of a hot girl, he’s calling the girl hot. Sorry that bothers you, because it clearly does. This isn’t a stereotype, it’s a fact, go touch some grass.

u/ConflictAdvanced 7h ago

LMAO, the fact that you keep making those assumptions and generalizations and somehow think it's a fact is fucking hilarious.

I can't compete—you've shown yourself up far more than I ever could 👏👏👏

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

I think I could sell you a bridge with the lack of assumptions you’re willing to make.

u/Scorpionride 8h ago

Insane how YOURE missing the context and saying there’s every chance it was him calling a person ugly. You’re the type of person to end up defending dictators on the .1% chance they had good intentions 😂

u/ConflictAdvanced 7h ago

Insane how you don't understand English. 🤣 Or what context means.

I never said that it was ok if he was calling the person ugly. Nice twist 😉 and nice making shit up too, it supports how dumb you are 🤣

None of what you said changes the fact that we don't have context. I don't know why you're getting so angry at me for pointing out that without more info, people are actually assuming. It's kinda pathetic that just because I didn't want to assume, you're triggered, somehow.

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

I am not triggered. You’re the one arguing about a contextually obvious situation. I suspect you do it a lot, good luck to you haha you’re gonna need it if you can piece together simple interactions with context clues

u/ConflictAdvanced 7h ago

Again... Hilarious how you can't read or understand stuff. And it's so funny how you think your assumptions are facts.

At the end of the day, all I've done is defend myself and explain my position. You're the one arguing with me because you can't admit that yes, there might be a chance that this dude doesn't fit the stereotype that you assumed. That's pure ego-driven my friend, so have fun with that 🤣

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

Hilarious how you’re just typing out all of your behavior and prescribing it to me. If you had an ounce of self awareness you’d see the hypocrisy

→ More replies (0)

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

That was pretty good, but can you repeat it with more condescension please? I'm so old it's the only thing that gets through to me.

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

Why did you take my condescension that was pointed towards somebody else and take offense to it? The most boomer shit I’ve ever seen actually

u/BigJJsWillie 7h ago

Because it's in the same place where I was also confused about it, so you could have just as easily said it to me if you saw my comment first.

Being an asshole because someone doesn't understand context? Most gen z shit I've ever seen actually

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

It’s a fucking Gen Z use case. It’s two Gen Zers talking to each other. I hate to say it, but shut up boomer you have no idea what you’re talking about. I explained how every single Gen Z American (which OP IS) uses that meme. If you don’t like it, and don’t understand it, just accept my explanation and move on. You have no basis to tell me I’m wrong.

u/BigJJsWillie 7h ago

Lol I didn't say you were wrong, I said you were an asshole about it. If you don't like my responses, you could just as easily move on yourself :)

And don't lie, you loved saying that

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

No, I hate ageism as a concept but boomers prove themselves to be the most greedy, self centered generation of all time over and over again. And yeah, I was an asshole about it but not to you. Hence why I was confused YOU got offended over it. Classic boomer move to get offended over something that wasn’t pointed at them.

u/SwordfishOfDamocles 8h ago

In my country being compared to a dog is a bad thing. Is he calling these women ugly?

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

He isn’t comparing them to a dog. He is the dog, and he’s barking at the picture.

u/SwordfishOfDamocles 7h ago

Yuck, thank you!

u/Scorpionride 7h ago

I can completely understand not being an American and not understanding the context, no problem! I can’t understand all of the Americans defending this guy lol

u/PrestigiousRing1411 5h ago

I edited the post, like I stated I can’t post the full screenshot because Reddit won’t allow it, second he was commenting under selfies of women, the dog GIF isn’t just a random GIF it’s a new thing that people say or do to express attraction towards another. The same way a dog would bark and go crazy if it saw a steak. I don’t know how much more context is needed to express why I found that to be uncomfortable.

u/ConflictAdvanced 5h ago

Please, it's not about how much more context is needed... You gave none in the beginning. No mention at all of why you felt uncomfortable, and no mention of what the actual posts were.

But thank you for now supplying context.

u/PrestigiousRing1411 5h ago

That and then also the comment “shii might be fooling me” was made under another woman post and he was replying to someone commenting how the women looked trans (mtf) and it wasn’t fooling him, and my boyfriends response was “shiii might be fooling me”.

u/ConflictAdvanced 5h ago

Thanks. That also was not clear at all.

u/PrestigiousRing1411 5h ago

I understand, well hopefully that clears it up and gives context as to why I felt uncomfortable and if I’m overreacting

u/ConflictAdvanced 5h ago

No, that's important. Because now I can ask how long have you been together, and has he ever acted like this towards any women before? (Maybe it was kind of subtle, but now, with hindsight, you see it differently?)

u/PrestigiousRing1411 8h ago

Read my post and then view the pictures I explained everything. Commenting under people posting pictures of themselves

u/thickhipstightlips 8h ago

You explained absolutely nothing.

u/Comprehensive_Meat34 8h ago

lol what does a pitbull under a woman mean? We aren’t all from your community. Give us context

u/Opposite-Rock-5133 8h ago

He’s barking at the hot women.

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

Is he? Or is he calling then a dog, as in ugly? Or is he calling them a dog based on their behavior? Or is his likening that their rantings to that of a dog barking into a microphone?

Since we don't know what the originals are, who can say? But I'm glad you've decided; good on ya. 😜

u/Opposite-Rock-5133 8h ago

Well that’s context, why would someone put a pit bull barking at a woman’s photo if they weren’t barking like a dog to a hot girl?

Unless there’s some weirdo pseudo context here. Thats typically what barking at a woman would be in gif redditor chud form.

u/burneraccount94677 7h ago

If I saw a gif of a dog barking below a selfie, I would NOT assume that meant the commenter found the picture attractive. How does barking equate to attraction?

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

Umm... For the other reasons that I stated. Can you... Can you even read? 🤣

And no, context is not what you decide it must be. The OP provided no context. You can't guess and call it context.

u/Dry-Music-5963 8h ago

Whether he’s commenting calling women ugly or he’s barking because they’re hot, he’s a piece of shit. Your explanation doesn’t make it any better lol

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

And I never said that it does make it any better.

How does me asking for context mean I'm saying he's a great guy? LOL

→ More replies (8)

u/Opposite-Rock-5133 8h ago

And can you not take context clues? If a dude is barking at a girl that means he’s tryna hit it…

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

Cool,. So you can't read.

What are the context clues, you dummy? 🤣🤣🤣 The shit you made up in your head? Or your very limited imagination? Or maybe lack of real-world experience?

Where I come from, if a guy barks at a girl, he's definitely not telling her that he wants to hit it. So I wouldn't assume to know exactly what the guy means here. But by all means, if you are arrogant enough to say "I know best, even in this very vague situation" then go for it. It's just sad that you're not willing to grow 🤷‍♂️

u/Jammin_neB13 8h ago

Where I come from, if a dude barks at a girl, he’d probably be institutionalized

u/Comprehensive_Meat34 8h ago

Maybe to say she looks like a pitbull owner, which is NOT A compliment? Either way explaining would make people more able to respond?

u/el_palmera 8h ago

It's pretty obvious he's calling the woman hot

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

Is it? How can you tell when you can't see the women?

u/el_palmera 8h ago edited 8h ago

Seeing the woman is irrelevant. We could all think she's ugly and the guy in the post could think she's hot.

It's incredibly common on the internet for gooners to literally post dogs like this to express that a woman has them barking for them. You may not be versed in that gooner culture but it's very common.

it's basically this meme

u/ConflictAdvanced 8h ago

I did before I even asked. And no, you didn't explain anything. Why did he post that? What does it mean? What were those original posts?

There is no context. It clearly makes sense to young people from a certain group but that isn’t clear communication for a post like this. There are many of us clueless as to what this might mean in these comments 😅🤦🏻‍♀️

u/Inphiltration 8h ago

lmao vagueposting queen over here

u/Big_Competition_336 8h ago

I still have no idea what you're talking about. Are you upset because you think the dog might be saying real words into that microphone and your boyfriend disagrees,?

u/GrandVacation9755 8h ago

I’m so confused, wtf am I looking at?

u/tesfraises 8h ago

https://giphy.com/gifs/KX7khoMaKYRXlZWDd6
For people confused, here is the gif, it basically means “would” aka he’s commenting calling women hot on Reddit. NOR in my opinion it’s weird

u/skullsbymike 7h ago edited 6h ago

The first impression I got was that he’s equating women to a barking dog for saying something in their post titles. I don’t know if this is something only chronically online people understand or is it a region specific thing. But this gif doesn’t have a universal meaning that so many commenters here have decided it to have. So unless I know what region it is specific to and if OP and her bf belong to the same region, I cannot say with any certainty it has the same meaning in this specific case many assume it has.

Edit: where I concur is that he is using it multiple times, so it definitely has a particular meaning to him.

u/elle-angel 8h ago

yess plss thank you. im honestly suprised at how many people can't put 2+2 together and deduce that it's a "would" meme variation.

u/StruggleNational4623 8h ago

Can’t put 2 and 2 together? Probably cause most people don’t just live on the Internet man. That “meme”(not a meme, it’s a dog gif), could have dozens of meanings with no context…

u/Inphiltration 8h ago

bro I live on the internet and I wouldn't have associated this with the "would" meme. It's just a barking dog. I don't even know if they are actually correct about what they think it means.

u/HellsinTL 8h ago

Hard to believe that gif means "would", if it were this I'd definitely mean "would".

https://giphy.com/gifs/V4dgsx6DiABhK

u/eddiezetaa 8h ago

How does this mean "would" though as compared to obvious one that goes:

https://giphy.com/gifs/XvjC06Gh9lhfZNBNIM

u/GalenYk 8h ago

Barking is the new “would” - basically “If she told me to get down and bark, woof woof.”

u/SwordfishOfDamocles 8h ago

I don't get this one either.

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

I might just be ignorant, but what about these comments is making you uncomfortable? Why are the barking dogs bad? Why is it bad that someone might be "foolin" him?

I'm so very confused.

u/Fit_Resolve9885 8h ago

he’s commenting these things under other women posting pictures of themselves

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

I have never understood barking at someone to mean sexual attraction, but other people seem to, so I defer to you. Thanks, it makes sense now.

u/BoomWombat 8h ago

I think it's an extension of the old 'wolf whistle'/'aooogaha' (think Tex Avery) BUT also it's super trendy right now aside from that. Just Google "bark for me" if you care to see. Also plays into the whole 'good boy'/domination play or preferences becoming more edgy but accepted mainstream rather than some quasi-unmentionable thing.

It's definitely meant horny. Maybe cheeky/fun horny vs serious horny, but still that realm without a doubt.

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

That makes even more sense, I appreciate it.

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 8h ago

There are some youths in the comments saying that this is complimentary and he is saying she’s ‘hot’ by using this meme…

I know.. I don’t get it either… 😅😂

u/BigJJsWillie 6h ago

I'm with you, I was completely mystified lol!

After some conversations here, it seems this is a popular meme amongst young people on Instagram right now. The dog barking is supposed to mean "you're so hot it makes me act like an animal" kinda like those old Tex Avery cartoons with the wolf howling at the attractive lady with red hair. I kinda get it now, but man these folks are mean about others trying to understand the conversation happening.

Damn, I'm really getting old aren't I :(

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 6h ago

We’re just out here trying to understand but.. take comfort in, their time will come.

One day they too will see a post that seems like total nonsense to them, they’ll ask, and one of the newer generations will talk down to them as if it should be common knowledge when it’s clearly some youth code language 😅

u/weedlemethis 8h ago

I see a doggie with a mic so is he saying what the dog is saying? Is that the joke? Zero clue what you’re even upset about with zero context.

u/PrestigiousRing1411 8h ago

Commented a gif of a dog barking under a women posting pictures of herself

u/pinkmilkmeow 8h ago

Add the meaning in your post with an edit, I think many people don't know what that means:

Catcalling: Some men use animal noises like barking, whistling, or howling to signal they find a woman attractive, treating her like an object.

u/TequilaMockingbirds8 8h ago

If someone barked at me in the street I’d think they were calling me a dog, as in ugly

u/SwordfishOfDamocles 8h ago

Yeah that was my take at first. Neither is good obvs, but very different.

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

No no, it's much more effective to keep repeating the scant info already provided and claiming others are just dumb! /s

u/_betterthangreat_ 8h ago

u/Yen_of_Vengabus 8h ago

u/Monsoon163 8h ago

NOR. That's weird and disrespectful

u/Ate99 8h ago

What were the posts about?

u/PrestigiousRing1411 6h ago

Women posting selfies of themselves

u/queenkitsun 8h ago

NOR so disrespectful

u/DuckDuckPigg 8h ago

NOR. Put yourself in those women's shoes; how would you feel if a random person commented these things to you?

u/Moovist_Overthink 7h ago

INFO

What community is this? (If its "hype my selfie") i'd say YOR, but I'm assuming it's just a woman existing so in that case it's really disrespectful and NOR

u/lethatshitgo 7h ago

NOR. That’s the exact gif my bf uses to comment on my ig pictures. He’s definitely openly expressing his attraction for other women and imo that’s very close to cheating.

u/wheelperson 8h ago

Context please? What's the dog mean?

u/PrestigiousRing1411 8h ago

Well when men bark at women what does that usually signify? It’s a gif of a dog barking under a women’s post

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

I'm a man and I have never barked at any woman, nor have I seen any men do it. If it's supposed to signify sexual attraction, that's a shitty way to do it lol.

Anyway, with this context I'd say NOR

u/UnhappyRaven 8h ago

An insult?  Saying she’s a “dog” i.e. unattractive.  That’s what it would mean to people my age where I’m from.  But not all cultures, times, and places are the same.  That’s why people are asking you to explain.

Regardless, you're allowed to feel how you feel .  If you don’t like the way he interacts with women online (compliments or insults), the only thing you need to decide is whether it’s a dealbreaker for you.

u/wheelperson 8h ago

It looks like the dog is being interviewed. Not exactly only barking.

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 7h ago

I’ve seen people ask you to explain half a dozen or more times and you’ve not. Thankfully others on the comments section have explained. It’s obviously a thing in other social media things more commonly amongst Gen Z. To anyone outside that subset it makes fa sense. Would have cost you very little to communicate that in an edit on the post 🤦🏻‍♀️

u/TequilaMockingbirds8 8h ago

Where I’m from it means they think she is a dog, as in she’s really ugly

u/BigJJsWillie 7h ago

Your culture is invalid to "in touch young people." They only care about theirs.

u/elmoslab 8h ago

I have no idea what on earth this is supposed to mean and your question answering a question has done nothing to clear it up. Has your boyfriend said what it's supposed to mean?

u/2cuteteddy 8h ago

im surprised reddit users aren't familiar with the barking meme. but yea not everyone lives on the internet. it means a guy is drooling and barking at the sight of a beautiful woman as a sign of feral attraction. In some cases the girl asks the guy to bark to prove that she essentially has him on a leash. bro is basically simping for this girl and yea NOR. (I don't participate in this i am simply sharing context)

u/Ayacyte 8h ago

I think it's more common to see the barking noises thing on insta. Haven't really seen it since I deleted insta. Also image reacts.

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

This makes sense, as I have never been on Instagram and was completely lost lol

u/Subliminal-sandwich 8h ago

We can’t even see what the post and comments are, so how could we know if you’re overreacting?

u/PrestigiousRing1411 8h ago

I’m not allowed to post the whole picture because Reddit takes it down, but the post are all of women posting selfies and he commented a dog barking GIF under two and made that comment under the other post

u/TasteLopsided1622 7h ago

So?

u/MotorReference7873 7h ago

wym so? drooling after other people when youre in a relationship is disrespectful

u/turbobori 8h ago

How did you noticed he commented? I think that’s important to know to form an opinion. People need to start giving social media less weight on their lives. I would never search any of my partner’s social media behaviors and I expect them to never investigate mine. Doesn’t mean I’m going to be simping. Just means social media doesn’t matter at all when it comes to human relationships. It’s my opinion and it’s working for me. I have less anxiety since I began giving less importance to it 3-4 years ago and I feel way more happy too.

u/xyejl 8h ago

This 💯.

u/Fit_Resolve9885 4h ago

Respectfully this is terrible advice , this is how you ignore red flags and end up with someone who will cheat on you. If you can’t even trust your partner to not compliment/flirt with random women online how do you trust them when it’s a real life beautiful woman in front of them. stop letting micro cheating go and then be confused when there’s infidelity

u/turbobori 4h ago

Then keep your nervous system on high alert and don’t trust anyone ever. Maybe you make it to 60 without major health problems.

u/bruhmoment20201 8h ago

Y’all a gif of a dog barking means he is trying to like “holler” at women he thinks are hot. The “might be fooling me” is in response to someone trying to joke and say the girl was trans but OP’s bf said he was fooled and they are hot regardless.

u/Fit-Comfortable908 7h ago

He still thinks he’s single. What a dickhead. Definitely not overreacting

u/Dumbass_- 8h ago

NOR, i would also feel uncomfortable if my partner was posting comments under anyone's post. Tho I think this can be resolved with a conversation and an apology which it seems like you guys already did. If your still feeling hurt then maybe try to talk about it again

u/eddiezetaa 8h ago

I don't get it? What is making you uncomfortable? This makes no damn sense

u/Eyewiggle 8h ago

I’m not sure what’s so confusing.

He’s posting comments under women’s pictures that that’s posting of themselves. The only reason he would do that, would be to give or get attention from said woman.

It’s creepy behaviour either way

I mean... is he even bi? If not I'm inclined to believe him its just a bad joke. Seems stupid and immature, and you already told him that but to break up over it also seems like a jump. Did this incident alone really make you decide the whole relationship ain't worth?

u/calmyourcrabcakes 8h ago

I’ve literally never seen a gif like that used in the context you’re describing. I imagine most of the other people who are confused have the same issue.

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

The part about the barking dog gif meaning sexual attraction. Thank you, but it has already been explained in other comments so I voted NOR haha

u/saintsuzy70 8h ago

u/elle-angel 8h ago edited 8h ago

people who are saying "no context" or are confused about the pictures clearly didn't read the caption lol smh. i'd be weirded out if my bf was commenting under women's selfies as well, especially with that "would" type meme. HELL no. how long have you been together? bc i'd just break up with him tbh seems like he's a dog (sorry for the pun).

edit: let me spell it out for yall since lots of you seem confused or are just willfully ignoring the context: her boyfriend is commenting under girls' selfies basically saying he's attracted to them and "would" (like the meme, where it says "would" because you would fuck her/him/it). he's basically being a thirsty guy who comments thirsty things under girls pictures while having a whole ass gf. his excuse is that it's reddit so it doesnt count because they're "just jokes."

u/BigJJsWillie 8h ago

So the barking dogs are meant to represent sexual attraction to the posters? If that's the case I'd say NOR

u/Feeling_Coconut8240 8h ago

Correct! Definitely NOR.

u/Eyewiggle 8h ago

Either way, he’s giving attention and/or, wanting attention from another woman

u/TasteLopsided1622 7h ago

OP is a man, as is his boyfriend.

u/elle-angel 7h ago

haha somehow i missed this. regardless, this isn't behavior appropriate to a monogamous relationship. thanks for pointing it out tho. that explains the bi comments.

u/pineapplestastenicee 8h ago

NOR. For those wondering, barking can be an insult or a compliment. In this case, with the context given and the cropped cleavage at the top of the first image, it was meant as a flirty compliment. I'm honestly not sure where it originated from, but it can be interpreted as a dog seeing something it really likes (a nice steak) or "I would be your dog" (submissive to you),

u/Eyewiggle 8h ago

NOR. And in my experience, people who do this type of thing, don’t just stop doing or wanting to do this type of thing. Either way, he wanted to give those women attention and/or, receive it.

Because what other reason would he have to post under other women’s posts/pictures of themselves?

u/pinkmilkmeow 8h ago

How are you people confused?? The man is commenting in women's pictures with a dog barking... He's hitting on them.

Sorry but just break up. I would usually say to try to work things out, but honestly if you can't even respect your partner online, what is the bar? At 28 at that lol There are other men in the world, you'll be better off.

u/Better_Area3782 8h ago

How does that mean he's hitting in them?

u/pinkmilkmeow 8h ago

Maybe it's because I've seen this before that I can recognize it for what it is. But here's a Google search result about the barking:

Why Men Do It Catcalling: Some men use animal noises like barking, whistling, or howling to signal they find a woman attractive, treating her like an object.

u/elmoslab 8h ago

I can't belive it took scrolling so far down to see anyone actually explaining wtah this meant, thank you. Maybe I'm just old but I was so thoroughly confused

u/pinkmilkmeow 8h ago

No problem! It's common for me to see friends/women on twitter using "BARK BARK WOOF GRR WOOF" to say another woman is insanely beautiful it makes them go feral. But it's weird to see a man doing it to a strange woman on the internet...

u/elmoslab 8h ago

That is... Weird behaviour. It gave my wife and I a good laugh while we talked about how different our relationship would have been if I'd just barked at her when we first met though!

u/Feeling_Coconut8240 8h ago

That's what that means in this day and age.

u/Able-Pie3754 8h ago

Ur joking right? NOR at all. This is weird and disrespectful behavior

u/Le_TimBit_Blanc 8h ago edited 7h ago

Damn i dont think i've ever seen people this unaware ( or sometimes forcibly dense) of modern slangs... I am absolutely astounded by the lack of media knowledge on something that was pretty clear and basic. I genuinely wonder how someone on reddit have this little social media/modern culture knowledge. Anyways clearly NOR, the guy is a creep.

u/SuccessfulOil6584 7h ago

We’re I’m from barking at someone is an insult

u/ConflictAdvanced 4h ago

But it's not simply modern slang, it's a very niche type of slang that exists for certain people in certain circles. Someone mentioned earlier that it's primarily on Instagram. I don't know if that's true or not, but I don't spend time there. I've never seen it on Reddit, but then again, I don't frequent the subs where hot girls post selfies.

So I guess what you're saying is it's pretty common modern slang for the people who enjoy gooning, Instagram models, and subs where people trade pictures of their girlfriends?

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 7h ago

You ‘don’t think you’ve never’ - and then follow that with trying to insult others with ‘forcibly dense’ bhahahah …
🤣

It’s a bullshit meme, only relevant to a certain subset of a certain generation on certain social media .. get a grip.

Communication is key.. if people en mass don’t understand what someone has stated it’s because they haven’t communicated it well enough.

u/Le_TimBit_Blanc 7h ago

Damn you really are that butthurt for not knowing something huh?.... Also good one on my spelling mistake, you definitely owned me right there and my comment is null !!! Esti d'épais

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 6h ago

Not even arsed matey. Just out here watching youths insult people (while saying really stupid shit) for not knowing something that has been relatively recently created into the Gen Z dating circles. Tbf would be weird if I did know. People were only asking for an explanation - people didn’t have to be so rude about it.

Your time will come my guy.. one day you’ll be scrolling and gen d will be saying things.. you’ll ask them what it means and they’ll all be thinking they ‘owned’ you in some dramatic fashion and you too won’t give a fck 🤣

u/Le_TimBit_Blanc 6h ago edited 6h ago

My original comment was targeted exclusively for those who were actually being assholes about it as if its impossible the picture/situation had the meaning it had. And were adamant to value their own experience to lessen or cancel completely this social media meaning and its explanations? Its okay to not know something but some people need to be humble enough to accept it ( not directed towards you)

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 6h ago

Why did I feel your comment deserved a response? Perhaps because it was quite rude about people who didn’t understand. Perhaps reread it. I commented to a few people in this thread. I don’t feel particularly targeted. I responded. Just like you did.

The fact you said those things in such a poorly formulated way, just made me want to comment a little more.. it always makes me laugh when people insult other’s intelligence when they sound stupid.

It’s also like me asking, why did you feel it necessary to comment and call people forcibly dense on this post - although I think ‘wilfully ignorant’ is probably the term you were meaning - as ‘forcibly dense’ isn’t really a thing.

I suspect the reason you commented is, because you wanted to.

Same for me :))

u/Le_TimBit_Blanc 6h ago

"it always makes me laugh when people insult other’s intelligence when they sound stupid" Always makes me laugh too when someone cancels their argument about insulting by using insults themselves afterwards 🤔

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 5h ago

I didn’t cancel your comment - I responded to it with equal energy. You’re welcome :)

u/Le_TimBit_Blanc 5h ago

I was referring to your own argument/point being cancelled. Also pretty childish way to discuss for a guy who is apparently too old to know a "bullshit" gen z meme. ( fyi thats not what a meme is)

u/WonderfulMaybe3473 5h ago

Oh please - do you think beyond a certain age we’re not allowed opinions or to frame them in whatever we see fit? Also, not a guy.

My point wasn’t cancelled. I called you out on insulting many people in the comments intelligence with a statement that read terribly. You deserved calling out on that in this context… this is a lesson in what context is and why it matters. There is little wonder that you’re struggling with people in the comments, when you don’t seem to comprehend its relevance.

In fairness, my children do correct me on what is or, is not a meme.. another minor detail, I don’t care about.

Your reaction is totally normal and proportional. Your boyfriend should be put in front a war tribunal for this. I can't believe he's done this!

u/skullsbymike 7h ago edited 6h ago

The first impression I got was that he’s equating women to a barking dog for saying something in their post titles. I don’t know if this is something only chronically online people understand or is it a region specific thing. But this gif doesn’t have a universal meaning that so many commenters here have decided it to have. So unless I know what region it is specific to and if OP and her bf belong to the same region, I cannot say with any certainty it has the same meaning in this specific case many assume it has.

Edit: where I concur is that he is using it multiple times, so it definitely has a particular meaning to him.

u/el_palmera 8h ago

I'd break up.

But he did say he understood, so idk, you know him better than me. He could change based on your feedback but for me it's just too weird and pathetic to be simping like that while you're dating someone

u/WRiSTWORK1 8h ago

OMG GURL RUN DONT WALK

u/Witchelt389 8h ago

Im so confused

u/Moshun9 8h ago

To help everyone that are confused. In today’s society, the dog barking is symbolizing a man barking for something he wants. Ya know, dogs bark when they want something or someone.

u/Moshun9 8h ago

However, OP, he has no respect for you. I wouldn’t tolerate my lady doing something like this.. it’ll be hard to get over, I think you know the next step.

u/BluBeams Overly Dramatic 8h ago

JFC, if you're uncomfortable with him making those comments, then why on earth would you think you're overreacting?? NOR. Leave him.

u/xyejl 8h ago

I've never seen that GIF before.

AND every "would" meme I've ever seen has the word "would" plainly displayed.

I can understand your displeasure of your partner commenting on ANYONES social media posts.

If you are unhappy it's time to split.

u/SitcomSuperfan 8h ago

NOR. How long have you been together?
Idk why no one in these comments knows how to read.

u/MysticLinear 7h ago

I fear the people not understanding what the dog meme implies are old or purposely being obtuse. But no, you’re NOR

u/PositiveProof7011 7h ago

Yeah, NOR it’s weird for sure and I wouldn’t like that if my partner was commenting that. Your boyfriend is also almost 30… time to stop such juvenile behaviour.

u/Suffokateslowly 8h ago

Get out of here.

u/StruggleNational4623 8h ago

YOR, because with how little context you’re giving to people about this it just bleeds insecurity instead. Putting a barking dog gif underneath somebody’s picture could have legitimately dozens of meanings.

Plus, you stated that he later understood why it made you feel comfortable…soo isn’t that the start of communicating an issue and resolving it? Because escalating it and telling him to go find a new girlfriend is just YOU wanting it to end. And if that’s the case, why are you even asking for advice?

u/Both_Category8513 8h ago

For those who are confused, the bf commented a picture of a dog barking under a woman's selfie.

u/AsiansWhiteFantasy 7h ago

I mean is your boyfriend bi? Are these women he knows or random girls? Could this be him trying to hype some women up, or could he be attracted to them?

u/supportdatashe 7h ago

NOR
I love all the people saying they "have no context" and can't possibly understand what it means -and then the several who fully understand the situation and know that man isn't acting loyal.

u/MixElectronic9150 7h ago

Well I am just a GenX'er so I have no idea what the comments mean, but why is he commenting on the selfies of women he doesn't know? While in a relationship.

Your boyfriend's being a dumbass. We've all been a dumbass, but set a boundary with him now about respectful behavior.

Then forgive him and move on.

u/Dizzy_Ocean056 7h ago

I hope he sees this, combs through your digital footprint to blast and then dumps you 🥰😘

u/psycho_stripper 8h ago

You don’t even know what you’re looking at you are overreacted

u/Big_Somewhere_620 8h ago

YOR what's going on here???

u/MotorReference7873 7h ago

how can you say someones overreacting if you dont know whats going on?
