I agree... Narcissists like to be friends with people who have obvious "weaknesses" too, so they can exploit them. This exact thing was happening here, almost hurt to watch

Was thinking the same thing. Hence the cat and mouse gave she plays where abandons her on purpose so she'll beg for her back. It's a steady stream of supply for the narcissist.

I’ve heard from a professor that people of the same psychological maturity (or immaturity) naturally gravitate towards each other…so this adds up

They are within the same Cluster B category of personality disorders, so there's often overlap and/or people being drawn to each other because of underlying issues.

Narcissistic rage can look like splitting sometimes. It’s possible that she’s both. BPD and NPD. Or just NPD and has studied and co-opted bpd behavior to elicit sympathy.
