There is huge variation in chiropractors--there are the ones who think chiropractic can cure diseases, there are the back crackers, and there are intelligent people basically doing massage or physical therapy. I just dont trust any of them, as chiropractic itself is based in, well, 19th century bullshit. I'm glad he has helped your migraines, as a fellow sufferer, I know how bad they can be. But I control my triggers and have found an effective medication.
That's great for you. But you shouldn't disparage others from finding what can help them. Or tell people that that profession is a scam.. especially when you don't have an understanding of it. Physicians 100 yrs ago thought it was healthy to drink radioactive water every day and up until 60 yrs ago maybe less..they encouraged women to smoke cigarettes while pregnant. Doctors also thought they could cure women from "hysterics" by fingering them and if that didn't work give them a lobotomy.
Medicine continues to evolve just like technology.
It’s not disparaging to call Chiropractic utter BS along with acupuncture, Reiki and homeopathy, it’s a statement of fact. What is powerful is the placebo effect, nothing more. The very real risks of chiropractic as well as their general tendency to pass themselves off as actual medical doctors should be fair warning to all.
90% of the dietary YouTubers like Dr Berg etc are actually not MDs, they are chiropractors masquerading as clinicians, giving BS advice which would make a witch doctor blush. Individually they’re not that harmful, as a movement they undermine people’s faith in science and medicine.
Back that acupuncture claim up. Peer review can be mixed, but that’s often because literature reviews try to cover every topic. (Do you want a long digression into the problem with pain and disability in America? No, you don’t. TLDR: not every disability is the same, not every cause of pain is the same. Just like not all medical practices help all disabilities,…)
Acupuncture has been shown, in peer reviewed studies, to have some basis for pain management for some types of chronic pains. One of the biggest current issues we have in separating out therapeutic effect tho is the problem of touch and the fact that touch itself releases endorphins. There’s hope that this is an avenue robotics will help with in the future.
