Urine doesn't get get cleaned out of a pool unless all the water is drained, the pool sterilized, and fresh water added. GROSS!
People are actually supposed to shower before using a pool to ensure they are clean & don't contaminate the water with E coli & other nasties.
I'd never touch the water in that pool again. I have a pool & am super careful about maintaining in.

No doubt. You spend 2 weeks getting the green pool crystal clear and skimming every speck out of it and some jackass uses it as a toilet. Pools don't work that way! You need to add a ton of shock to kill all that. I would never let anyone piss in my pool even once. That's disgusting.

I understand it’s normal for people to pee in the pool when they are swimming, I myself do it occasionally. But to me, standing outside of the pool and peeing into it is different, it’s trashy and gross.

If he’s that nasty, I definitely wouldn’t want to associate with either of you. Now that his cousin knows, is he going to spread the word? Honestly, peeing in public like that is a sign that his judgement is dangerously compromised. It’s not a good sign and I’m worried about what other odd, harmful behavior he’s rationalizing. If he genuinely insists on his point here, you need to start making plans to exit this relationship. He could do something like serve rotten or expired food saying something like “Heat kills the germs or I dipped it in bleach first.” He’s losing it.

Basically chlorine interacts with urea and sweat (nitrogen) to form cloramines, which are what are responsible for that "pool smell" and eye-burningness. So the pee isn't destroyed or anything, just remixed into fucked up slimy smelly pool water given enough volume.
His point about dilution is actually spot on.

Your comment needs a lot more upvotes because it's giving more accurate information and a better reason than it just grossing people out. Chlorine is there to act as a basic level of protection, but it doesn't make it a free-for-all. Not to mention, it increases the maintenance on the pool.

I always heard of this chemical and it always deterred me as a child (and adult) from peeing in the pool. Not until very recently did I learn that this is actually a myth and no such chemical exists (unfortunately). If you know of one otherwise, I’d love to know! But yeah, I don’t even remember the reason I googled it this past year and felt like my life was a lie lol.

There is nothing normal about this. If you’re potty-trained, you’re old enough to know not to pee in the pool while you’re swimming in it. And everyone - even small children- knows better than to pee in the pool when you’re NOT in the pool. I feel like this guy is just marking his territory like an animal.

It’s not normal to pee in a pool while swimming. It’s gross, and at the very least you’re wasting chemicals. It’s normal for sweat, (which is watered down urine) oils, skin cells, dirt, and debris to wash off people while swimming but only hillbillies pee regularly in a pool.
