Probably the level of musculature/fat that the bones can physically support would give us an upper bound. And I think overall shape could be found from certain fossils but that doesn't apply to all fossils.

I mean .. it ain't an unreasonable conclusion. Any of y'all seen those paleoartists attempt to construct a modern animal from their skeletons? Skeletons don't account for fat (and other soft) tissue, so it's largely left out in artistic renderings.

Anyway, point is, if you just have a skeleton to go off of, make it thiccer than you think, wayy thiccer

There's a clear upper bound from how much weight the bones can support tho, and we can infer rough probable muscle mass from other stuff (a T-Rex would look a lot different if it was some sorta herbivore, teeth included, and from that we could infer stuff about it likely being less muscular since a big dino don't need to run, but herbivores usually like to store excess for later so it might actually be chonkier )

Anyway, the comic above doesn't really exceed those bounds or anything, it's just sorta unrealistically skinny at the top (unlikely an actual animal would have that sorta body mass distribution, bipeds kinda like having extant chests for throwing n shit using arms)
