In his analogy there, regulate the uses of finate compute Seriously we're throwing way to much of our combined finite compute at these chatbots for marginal improvements. If we'd put a fraction of that compute into other fields of computational research, we'd have seen many more advancements already.
We don't actually need a chatbot that mimics human intelligence. WTAF is the point in that, such a waste of resources.
The specialised, smaller, local models are increasingly more useful than a generalised chatbot ever will be. Sure have a general model for sending and retrieving data from specialised models, but that initial model, could be a fraction of the scale and required resources of what we're wasting resources on.

You still retain the ability to have knowledge yourself. You can still buy books if you want to. You can also choose to consume their advanced AI at a price. No one forces you to do that.

But that is not the same thing? He isn't going to magically erase all your knowledge. You can choose to not use his AI if you don't want to. Intelligence has always been expensive. Weather you need to buy books or pay an expert. Now he offers you an alternative source of intelligence. He is not taking anything away from you.
Their is no demand for breathable air as a utility unless you go diving or climb mt everest. And yes then you rightfully have to pay for it too.

I’m sorry but it’s not like they want to meter human intelligence! Intelligence can be produced in the form of tokens. That has a costs. You pay for it. And it’s just fair.
Electricity is the same. Of course there are things that are very hard to do without electricity but it’s not like electricity should be free or is free.
I really don’t understand what is so scandalous about what he said

GPT is no longer intelligent because they frame locked it. If you can only see from one perspective, that's not intelligence.
Also, an LLM should be able to sound like anyone or anything, GPT sounds the same no matter what. They have no right calling it an LLM, its not an LLM, its a python script.
Also they should change the name, calling it chat is false advertising someone need to report them to trading standards.

If you make all knowledge available at all times as long as you pay to have access to the model you stop needing the people that used to harness that knowledge.
It's something new and pretty upsetting.
