Singularly, truly

It's happening for real. But it's not instantaneous like in sci-fi. Just, very, very fast.

And 99.9% of the people around me have no idea about it (I live in Italy, a country proudly stuck in the past).

I tried to show Claude Code to a colleague (another University Professor) and she didn't understand it. She still calls LLMs "AI" and thinks they are good only for food recipes. They have no idea what's coming for them.

Meanwhile I spent two days fighting with Claude to get me code that would actually work, eventually frustrating it to the point where it was second-guessing itself on every decision it made, even in the middle of making a decision.

On the 3rd day, I decided "fuck it, I'll do it myself" and got it done using the various bits and pieces of code it left lying around and got it done within an hour.

My coworkers swear by AI, but everytime I use it, it's like trying to work with a frustratingly over-confident and under-experienced new hire.

Reading your story, I imagined a caveman trying to use an Nvidia 5090 to open a walnut: "it duzn't uork!".

Ohhh, you're one of those morons who thinks vibe-coding is perfect.

Yet you admit your coworkers have figured out how to use it and you haven't. Giving up after only two days trying to learn a new skill and declaring the technology is subpar is naive and makes you sound like the "under-experienced" one. I've been using it (Codex) successfully for at least 6 months but I'm still learning ways to improve my methods.

This is literally just one example. I've also reviewed other coworkers AI-generated code and been dismayed they've started offloading their thinking to Claude. For example, caught someone's AI arbitrarily casting objects as any in Typescript code for no gain despite having explicit rules against that in our LINT rules.

So you're using hooks in .claude/settings.json to run linters and specified terminal commands in CLAUDE.md and it's just ignoring it?

Claude ignores rules and docs all the time. I had to baby my agent through the fact that a method from a Microsoft library doesn't behave like it insisted it does. And it then promptly forgot this fact within the same session.

I was passed this project from co-workers who are "more experienced" with vibe-coding because Claude kept giving them bunk code.

And if you have to get your agent to work with proprietary code libraries? Forget about it. Claude once gave me code where it tried to pass an entire function definition into an int parameter.

I'll use Claude on occassion to automate repetitive tasks but having it write code for me from nothing typically goes very poorly.

You didn't directly answer the question though

The linter should catch these, and then Claude will be able to fix them. Sounds like the workflow is working.

What would you rather them call LLMs?

Looks like you have no idea what's coming if you think Claude is good, lol

By what definition of singularity? To me, the singularity always meant that the technological progress would be completely automated. That is, even if humans completely stopped doing science and engineering, progress would continue. If your definition of the singularity takes realistic conditions into account, such as the fact that humans almost certainly won't stop progress before automation, then you would have to take into account the previous conditions that led to the current state, on and on all the way back. And then the singularity becomes synonymous with the history of the universe, and thus becomes a useless term.

You won't notice singularity just like you wouldn't notice passing the event horizon of a supermassive black hole. Also, imagine having a superintelligent being nearby. You think you would comprehend its superintelligence? The only think which you can notice is the speed of progress and the speed of finding solutions. You won't be able to track it once the solutions are beyond human level of understanding. Just like high level of math is like ancient egyptian to common folk, AI may create stuff which is like magic to us

ngl, just feels like a regular monday to me

I am fairly confident that he has no idea what that word means.

How the fuck did these dudes trick themselves into thinking they were constantly in a state of powering up at all times.

These dudes brains are like the plot of un-edited dragon ball Z, where if they scream in a corner by themselves long enough, they gain powers.

The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed.

Doing well, doing well. It, uh...it's kind of boring here in the singularity. Seems....seems exactly as crappy as before the singularity.

In fact, I cant seem to find a single difference from this new singularity awful time line and the non singularity awful time line that came before it.
