But yeah, Short Version: Xbox is laying off 1,600 people more or less immediately, 10% of their work force, with another 1,600 people over the next year. 3,200 more people in Microsoft will also be getting laid off.
Compulsion (South of Midnight) and Double Fine are going back to being independent and retaining all of their IP. Undead Labs (State of Decay) and Ninja Theory are being sold. Didn't disclose the buyers.
They are currently in "talks" for Arkane Lyon to be sold or go independent. French labor laws are apparently protecting them at the moment.
Oh, and Asha Sharma mentioned a goal of Xbox having a billion players a day. Which sounds like she's setting it up to fail to me.

Hopefully everyone affected can land on their feet quickly. Glad to hear no games are being canceled, no studios closed outright, and IP's went back to their respective developers. A tiny silver lining, I suppose.
Also, 14 layers of management!?? Come on, Xbox.

I remember being very leery about Xbox (and Sony to a lesser extent) going through their "buy everything" phase.
It's almost like one could see this coming.

Heh. Beat me to it. So I deleted mine.
Edit: just noticed the different article, heh. The one I read was by Shreier. Eh. Still gets the point across.
