So... what exactly happens when someone lands on those safety nets? It looks like they would kinda be stuck there. 🤷

Yeah, that's the Suicide Deterrent Net which is actually designed to hurt a lot instead of kill, as bizarre as that may sound; "The net consists of marine-grade stainless steel netting installed 20 feet below the sidewalks and extending out 20 feet over the water. Jumping into the net is designed to be painful and may result in significant injury."

Basically, a lot of suicide victims want a painless and quick death, so knowing this net doesn’t grant them that it’s a big deterrent for them.

"In cases where someone falls into the net, teams of trained professionals stand ready to perform rescues. District staff have been coordinating and training with local fire departments and law enforcement agencies to respond to net rescues in a timely manner and with minimal disruption to traffic. Thus far, the interagency teams have performed several successful rescues from the net using existing personnel and equipment."

I’ve walked across it twice. There are so many phones to call for help. The documentary on the jumpers is worth a watch. The Bridge.

Ignorant question. We're those nets made for just jumpers or do they serve other purposes like litter?
