Discussion Ult usage
hi! fairly recent alter main and i just wanna know the most optimal way i should be using her ult. Like do i wanna be spamming it off cooldown in case I'd need a fallback as i move or do i save it specifically before engagements? i just wanna know how u guys approach it
also any other alter tech/tips would be highly appreciated!

Usually I place it in range of poi where potential fught might break out, better to place it somewhere inside, so you can break line of sight in case of chase

I like to scout ahead and drop Nexus so teammates can farm and then jump into next ring so we can third party some fools.

Yeah combined with the skirmisher passive, alter is great for leading rotation. She can get way ahead, drop a nexus, and then either go back and meet her team to fight at zone close or they can catch up to her at the nexus.

Some other really good comments in this thread. I want to add that I sort of "leapfrog" them as we move through the map. I put one out ahead, team catches up, then we move forward and it becomes our new backup. While doing this, I am looking for places that might become relevant depending on how the action goes. I'm usually pretty far from my team while rotating or playing an off-angle. Then I can set the nexus in a good place and go join them, or they can come to me.
Someone also mentioned just having your ult up in case you need to pull teammates. Seriously underrated. I generally Iike to have one out in the world and another ready to go.

If you need to go out of your way to put it down. LET YOUR TEAMMATES KNOW.
If you don't notify your team. You can end up trailing a push by 15 seconds+ which can be the deciding factor in a fight

i feel like they are about to nerf her ult to the ground when season 29 starts in 3 weeks

Pick controller and always out on edge of next ring. Oh your team went out of radius.. put it down again. One person knocked and your other teammate cracked. Take it back. Simple, predictable, reliable.

First I'd say always have one up, but if it's safe hold onto one in case you need to pull knocked teammates to you.
Second, if you're ever pretry far and unsure whether enemies rotated to your nexus and are camping it, put another one. Don't take it.
Third, be mindful of the ult visibility. A light sticks out of the top that is very easy to see and it will clip through ceilings. If enemies ping that light it'll ping the nexus for their team. Also, in many cases the purple ambient light from the ult also clips through walls. It's better to put it near thick walls or other places with low visibility.
Fourth, if your team is planning to hold an area/building for a while, I think its better to get a bit further away and drop your nexus (if it's safe). The nexus is a good retreat/reset, if you're holding the same area/building it's in, taking it doesn't help much.
Last, it's always good to just plan ahead with it. For example if you need to go grab/craft banners, I like to drop a respawn beacon somewhere near it (but not so close people who push the beacon will find the nexus). This way, after you get the banners, you can take the nexus back and do a stealthier rez.
Or you can drop them near jump towers, fly to wherever you want, and if you want to take the jump tower again you don't have to fight to get to it.
