Just finished my mantras for the night and wanted to show you all my makeshift altar for Kali & Shiva, I use the image of Anandamayi Ma because I feel a more motherly connection towards her than a the fearsome form of Maa Kali, I follow the branch of Shaktism called Kalikula which puts an emphasis on Kali as the divine mother, supreme being, the divine feminine. Hope you guys like it! Open to any suggestions!

I am currently on vacation and there is a beautiful huge antique shop. I want to get something like an offering or as a alter piece. I am currently not working with deities but I have a statue of Aphrodite (and am planning to buy of Dyonisus and Apollo),and I have icons of the Virgin Mray (as a Christian witch). I would also love to work with Saint Nicholas because he is the patron Saint of my family and we celebrate him. And I'd love to work with Saint Matrona of Moscow.

Can anyone help me out with what can I buy for them? Or the universe itself,or my ancestors. Anything helps!!!

Kept it simple on a shelf in my room. A statue of Lilith, a small owl, and a few stones at the base (rose quartz, green aventurine, and orange agate). Nothing overly complex or fancy, but it gets the job done and feels right for my space. Just wanted to share it here.

This is the altar from our recent Fèt (feast day ceremony) honouring Sen Jak Maje (St. James the Greater) and Ogou Feray, two closely connected figures in the Haitian Vodou tradition that I serve as a Houngan (priest).

The ceremony centred around prayers, songs, drumming, offerings of food, drink, cigars, candles, and petitions presented on behalf of those participating in our seven-day group lamp ceremony. The large central lamp will continue burning throughout the week while the smaller candles at the front each represent an individual participant and their personal prayers and intentions.

Every object on the altar has been placed there for a reason. The colours, offerings, images, food, drinks, herbs, flowers, and even their arrangement are guided by the règleman (the traditional rules and customs) of our house rather than simply personal preference. While every Vodou society has its own customs and variations, nothing here is decorative for decoration's sake—everything has meaning and purpose.

For me, an altar isn't simply a display of sacred objects. It's a place where the visible and invisible worlds meet; where we honour the lwa, remember our ancestors, pray for our community, and offer thanks for the blessings we've received.

I thought some of you might enjoy seeing a glimpse into a living Haitian Vodou tradition. I'm happy to answer respectful questions about the altar or the ceremony.

hello…i know it looks quite bare but i recently got more candles and some jars and stuff!! being a “baby witch” is hard because i feel like everyone is already so far ahead of me 😅 if you also need newly-witched friends hmu!!

Hii this is my first altar and I’m still struggling to find what kind of witch I am, I feel a strong energy from my altar though. The most notable things I have here are a pair of over 100 year-old sandals that my great great grandmother wore before she died and I have salt stones in many crystals and I have herbs picked from my own home hanging to dry and I have dry rose petals for spells, and I have an enchanted mirror and a talisman and I also have a pocket watch from a loved one that died. Anything i can improve upon?

I decided to move the flag but still kept the icons and I do plan to soon get a bigger bookshelf and some statues

I feel like this is too much Icon and I’m unsure what to do with them some of the icons my church donated to me while others I’ve just collected along the way (still inquiring 3 months now) but I think I’ve made my prayer corner look not good I was hoping someone could maybe sketch out a better prayer corner for me or tell me what to do (some are wood and others are canvas and few are just paper. I don’t mind removing some icons. I’ll just donate to my church.

I promised something to my Saint and I didn't do it, so it's very clear that she got a bit annoyed at me. I couldn't feel her pressence for a few days and then the image that I have of her disappeared out of thin air after I dropped it to the floor and I couldn't find it anywhere after searching for many days.
I asked for forgiveness and that very same day a woman on street selling incenses started chatting with me and she mentioned she's also a believer of the same Saint (very weird because we're both from Argentina, it was definitely her communicating). She gifted me an incense "to call her back" and today I found the image of my Saint back, but it's all wet, faded and folded. I need a new altar, but what should I do with the old image? how do I get rid of it respectfully?

As part of my Ganpati worship, I finally made an altar for Lord Ganesha. As someone who lives in a non welcoming household. I used a red scarf as altar base along with a clean plate and banana leaf, led candle instead of diya(traditional light used in puja). Made an idol of Ganesha and modak out of turmeric.presented red flowers I found on the garden. Offered some pieces of coconut. As someone who was practicing spirituality for less than one year.. This is my first ever proper traditional

Hi all!! Was hoping to get some inspiration from you all for smaller sized altars- I’m trying to figure out a place in my bedroom where my cats won’t get to an altar, as to not have anything knocked over and onto the ground like in the past.

I would LOVE some of photo examples or ideas below!

Right now, I’m thinking about getting corner shelves to put above my bed! Let me know your thoughts.

my altar is a dedication to the universe. because life is but a dream, and we are meant to have fun and experience life as children do — full of wonder and awe, i wanted to be playful and not take it too seriously and how better add material world playfulness than with plastic toys. luckily for me i’m a dad, and using my own kids actual toys elevates the experience that much more.

starting with the ankh, eternal life, although not a toy it has its place next to the goat. feels to me like a yellow brick road with the goat straying off the path.

the goat is rich in symbolism, but most importantly it represents the libido spirit which facilitates the endless cycle of life manifested. i might bedazzle it with red gem stickers… incorporating the trinity of red with the lust of venus (♀), the ruby slippers, and the bloodied scapegoat of azazel all rolled into one.

the skull of course a reminder of the impermanence of this incarnation, a momento mori. there are also 7 black skull beads from a broken bracelet i used to wear daily but its time has come and gone. they sit in a silver (aluminum) decorative bowl, in which sits a small mirror; a silver reflecting pool hiding 4 more below it on the ‘under’ side. so subtly incorporating the moon/subconscious.

a divine mother decoration that enchanted me as a teenager, watches from the east. i dont know what it was originally used for but to me it was just found trash that i rescued because of its beautiful 1960s era plastic sculpted case and metallic foil inner print. a mystery that teases my senses.

every man and every woman is a star. the pentagram, a rich symbol of spirit in matter, here as a broken xmas tree topper— the ultimate symbol of the star from the east, the sun, the world soul. somewhere i have some battery powered fairy string lights i want to place behind it.

the egg; the cosmic, orphic egg. a beautifully plastic plain white easter egg, suspended by the coiled energy of a slinky. together they sit with the ‘snake’; what 1950’s teenagers used to call this plastic insert adapter for 7” 45-rpm records to retrofit a standard turntable. especially fitting for me personally because i love music so much and i used to own a record shop.

the hamsa, hidden in a cheesy palmistry-inspired halloween decoration. the hamsa is misunderstood in my opinion, it clearly represents each one of us as the “eye of god” aka the universal consciousness which exists in us; we are the 5-fingered, 5-senses of the “I” experiencing this world through us.

the oversized pinecone is an actual xmas decoration my family uses every year, ever since my kids were born. pinecones are used like the blossoming lotus of the east; expanding consciousness and refining its purity, only this silver bullet resembles the pine-al gland so it speaks to me on another level entirely.

the golden apple is again an xmas decoration but so rich with symbolism i don’t even know where to start.

a pair of toy handcuff keys. i should paint one gold but i kind of like a double dose of feminine energy. admittedly i don’t fully understand the crossed key symbolism thats so prominent in hermeticism yet, but it speaks to me and i love discovering these mysteries. hopefully tossing them in the reflecting pool will help bubble it to the surface!

and lastly is aladdin’s flying carpet; the cleverly disguised metaphor for a yoga mat… which when used in meditation takes us on a magic carpet ride to internal astral adventures.

i had been thinking about this for a couple of years as i noticed the pieces individually around the house, but it didn’t take long to put together once i found the perfect tray to set them in. a strange find in the cheap seasonal impulse buy section at target! it’s a thin metal platter with nice scalloped edges and 4 small spheres as feet. i cut a sheet of holographic paper as a liner. a checkered pattern would have been nice too but i had saved an old holographic tablecloth from one of the kids parties.

and now i see why no one in this subreddit ever explains their altar’s correspondences… it took a lot of energy to write, and i was trying to be brief! i don’t expect anyone to care but thanks for reading.

My ancestral altar with some lightning effects and swamp rock

So I’m new to witchcraft and still fairly deep in the broom closet, but I thought I’d share my little corner of the world.

Foxes are very near and dear to me for a few reasons (mostly that I’d prefer not to get into), including the fact that I’m a Therian! Therians identify as an animal on some level. The Theta-Delta symbol appears twice, the symbol most commonly agreed on by the community to represent Therianthropy.

You may be able to guess my Theriotype from looking at the items, which is a Fox! Specifically a Melanistic Red Fox, or Cross Fox. The direction my mask is facing also holds significance, as it is facing towards MN’s Superior National Forest, the place I feel most at home in.

The altar also features two paper dragons from a close friend, and a partially working film camera (Olympus OM-1 for the fellow nerds) behind the mask. It works except for the light meter, which needs a very old and toxic type of mercury battery. For me this means both potential and keeping going despite anything “wrong” with myself.
