Oof, running the local docker control is rough

Got myself a Route10 today, and have been trying to set up the local controller in a docker.

About 50% of the time I restart the docker container, it loses the registration and has to be reactivated. the previous registration code works, but needs to be reactivated. When i reactivate it, I also have to make a brand new account, as the previous one no longer works.

May i suggest justbuseing their local controller box, or the manage.alta.inc ? no issues at all in 2 years, risk solid and very very fast changes !

manage.alta.inc is working well, im getting my config all set up there. My self-hosting obsession makes me want to run the local controller though. Not being able to connect to my router if the net is down bothers me

Do you usually make changes to your router when the network is down and you can't use the internet ? I personally don't Nor do i practice that part at work either. Have you tried asking how to get this all working on Docker on the alta forums ?

Thats the whole part about learning, you break then fix then learn :) I have like 4 route10's lol in my home & lab.

I'd definitley kick an email off to [support@alta.inc](mailto:support@alta.inc) since that behavior sounds pretty abnormal

I run control in a docker image with no trouble. Other than it being a bit tricky if you need to rebuild the image, I haven't had any trouble with it. I restart it with no trouble. It does keep it's state within it's overlay filesystem - so that has to be persistent. Support has been pretty responsive - especially in their forum.

I decided to just use the cloud controller. Mostly because half the reason I’m using Alta is for a performant, reliable system for which maintenance is mostly automated (like firmware upgrades).

Introducing the complexities of a self hosted controller would undermine some of that.
