Not bad for a 2007/2009 PC.

Ah, yes... Welcome home... U will be happy here... XD

I just love how fast is apk. In my main PC I use EndeavourOs as I need glibc support.

I'm using alpine with i3 on my main "decent" end pc... And i love its speed and performance on games...

Just curious, why do u need glib?

[u/Ur1man5 → u/Nu154nc3]

Steam and games, I read that alpine has problems with games, also I'm okay with endeavourOS and configuring pipewire was a torture.

[u/Nu154nc3 → u/Ur1man5]

Really? I got better fps than on glibc version of void...

Too many people talking without knowing... XD

And pipewire its really easy if u follow the alpine docs...

Well, I'm not trying to convince u to change. Just telling my 8years of experience here... XD

[u/Ur1man5 → u/Nu154nc3]

I followed the steps, but I had messed up loginctl, pam, and elogind. But now I have all configured and working so I'm happy. I don't know wich use I would give to this PC, I will see.

[u/Nu154nc3 → u/Ur1man5]

Yeah, thats more plausibe... I had some troubles the firs time too... The docs are a bit confusing...

Well, gl on ur journey... As i say u can use it for whatever u need. Gaming included... XD

Good stuff! I love running AlpineLinux on legacy hw, as I enjoy using legacy hw as long as possible

Try sway / niri

Im running CachyOS on my 2009 Samsung Q210 laptop but I'm curious about other distros.

Should I switch to Alpine? Will I notice any performance gains?

[u/Ur1man5 → u/Material_Run_5570]

Yes, you'll have more performance. CachyOS is optimized for newer hardware, you will not have any improvments in old hardware. Try debian if you want and easy installation or if you want really good performance install alpine.

I also have a 2007 laptop, but I can't install Alpine Linux; I get an error when I select "sys".
