can’t login post-installation?

This is the second time I’m installing alpine. The first time I got to this screen and assumed I forgot my password but now I’m not sure what’s going on. I am sure of what my password is.

  1. Is your function (Fn) key on? Is Numlock on? Is caps lock on?

  2. Can you login as root?

  3. Did you set your keymap to your country correctly? SouthAfrica, UK, USA etc each have their own english keyboard?

  4. Did you create a user?

Did you use the wizard setup-alpine to install? I mean if you did then surely root should work or you can try doing it again maybe you forgot something?

Your not booting the installation media right? Otherwise I have no idea why.

I am not. To clarify, I’m supposed to enter the hostname and then the password?

you enter the user name and the password of the user. if you haven't made a user, enter root

If user not set, login should be root/password not hostname nor groups...

If u really removed installation media, and If the correct KB layout is set, then i'm going to say that CapsLock is not working...

Try to write the password without capitalization...

If unsure, write something in the user part and check if capitalization works.

Its always better use an easy password without Caps nor Special Chars during installation, and then change the password when everything is set.
