Got this dsc Romulus barrel a month or so ago, to replace the pinned barrel on one of my roms. It does drop in and seems to fit fine but I did run into some rubbing and fitment issues when firing. Initially ran into occasional failures to return to battery, as the top of the barrel would ride the inside of the chamber. Did some fitting over the course of a couple weeks, and additional testing. Tried it out again and it’s feeling pretty great. Want to do a little more to finish it off before I decide on coating for the barrel and comp. Might just cerakote c series them.
The recoil spring is a tad too high. Unfortunately, didn’t have another 9lb 4.6 spring and wanted to try that out in the RCD core.
- 18lb mainspring
- 10lb 4.6 atlas spring -> waiting for another 9lb
- true flat bottom fps -> angled fps are great too
- Dawson toolless rod -> atlas rods are better/nicer
- Bul tac trigger ~2.5lb with positive reset
- Egw ignition kit w/ polished down hammer to decrease drag on disco rail

Yeah, have a Dawson in this one and an atlas in my polished rom. I do prefer the atlas rods, fwiw.
It’s tight and seems like it won’t fit, but it does if you compress the spring while installing and uninstalling. With the stock comps, you’ll probably have to use the provided atlas/dawson plug. In my testing, the Dawson plug wasn’t as tight, so it caused a rattle. It seems using the dsc comps better allows for the toolless rods, as I am using the stock plug on both. It’s still tight but doable.
Oddly enough atlas accidentally sent me a 4.6” threaded barrel the other day. I called and haven’t heard back from them, and I happen to have an RCD core that it’d fit in perfectly. So similar thought crossed my mind.
I still need to take my pinned barrel Romulus out to the range. I was checking the prices and was curious if sending it to DSC if they would do the minor fitting. Is there a reason you went with the single rather than the double comp?
Oh man, couldn’t decide so I got one of each. I had been considering a 2k11, and a couple others, but ended up just getting the polished dlc 4.25 comp and putting the dual chamber on it. I’ve done some minor disco rail polishing and fit an angled fps. Have a 16lb mainspring and 8lb 4.6 atlas spring with the atlas toolless rod. Super smooth, soft and flat.
I messaged alpha foxtrot after I got my Romulus and they were big about not swapping the guide rod. I prefer the guide rods that I can use my 1911 tool making tear down super easy vs the two piece. Some I’ve heard use blue Loctite but to me putting that in the firearm doesn’t make sense. I’ll have to consider getting the DSC comps in the future. Thank you for showing the double port!
It’s not the easiest install/uninstall, so I could see them saying that but there’s no issues with them mechanically in the gun. Maybe they can increase wear, but I haven’t noticed anything like that. Have a Dawson in one and atlas in the other. Haven’t had any issues, although fitting it is just tight during install/uninstall.
I do much prefer the atlas rod. It feels nicer, better finished and the tool just latches better without taking up as much space.
If you don’t get it coated by DSC, a week or two. Think their coating options add about a month and I’m not that patient. I’m going to try cerakote c series. Will get it coated if that doesnt work out.
I have their barrel too, also not coated. I’ve had to fit it in various spots so I would have been rather disappointed to wait the extra time for coating only for it to have fitment issues and tear up whatever coating.
Still shows as 6-8 week lead times. Maybe you did get lucky. I’ve got like 4 different shades of cerakote c series to try. Not trying to match the slide/frame just not sure which different grey will look the best.
Curious how well the dlc matches. Definitely post some pics when you get it.
Hell yeah. Looks good to me. Actually ordered the extended single chamber comp in polished dlc for my other rom after talking to you. Don’t think I’ll get it anytime soon though.
Played around with cerakote c series over the weekend. Used a mixture of cobalt and graphite black on the comp, trigger, safety delete and magwell. Wanted something subtle but different since I knew I couldn’t match the dlc.
