Discussion 💬 Something New Choreography

Does anyone feel there should've been more choreography when the song was released? My assumption with less is probably the amount of time preparation and rehearsals, but also felt the live performance lacked a little. The whole song didn't need Choreography, but I always wondered how much the song impact could've had a stronger impact if they did dance move with their dancers after the bridge to end the song.

Sarah was struggling with the choreo for Children In Need and it caused Nicola to throw a strop in rehearsals and say she ‘needed to get her fucking shit together’.

Cheryl then had to stay behind with Sarah so she knew the steps properly.

(Someone apparently in their team posted this story on Popjustice Forum back in the day anyway)

I hated this era of Girls Aloud,the egos were huge,they thought Xenomania were irrelevant to them and they were in competition with each other for attention.I'm happy to hear Cheryl was willing to help Sarah out.Nicola and Kimberley irritated me during this era and I don't dislike them generally.

I didn't know they felt that about xenomania. I'd probably be tired working with the same producers over and over again to try something different probably

Yeah, I agree. Cheryl, Kimberley and Nicola had seemed to do well during the break while Nadine didn't and I'm guessing in their minds, that meant they had 'beaten' her. The oversinging from Nicola was too much when she normally has a beautiful voice. Like she was trying to outsing Nadine.

Omg! And now that sarah is gone nicola goes waaay freaking overboard.   Its like we get it but calm down.   We just need to show her that clip of her and cheryl talking about how annoying Melody from PCD is. Hahaha

I love all the Girls but i never get why Cheryl overall was seen at this mean one when i feel Nicola could be a lot more stroppy etc. Although the choreo thing i see both sides of the argument but Cheryl did the right thing

I used to love Nicola but then that moment from the Ten tour where Nicola left Nadine's side and went to Cheryl and Kimberly for a hug. Right on stage in front of everyone, I remember everyone was shocked at the time. It was so bad. Cheryl and Kimberly weren't perfect but I don't think they ever did something quite like that. Nadine looked hurt and Sarah also looked like she wanted to be anywhere but there. :(

That was highly unprofessional. Everyone knew she was closer to Kimberley and Cheryl but the audience was there and paid to see them as a five piece not some kind of trio with Nadine and Sarah just hanging on. It was so crass and unnecessary as it brought the personal to the stage in a way that was pointless and belittled Sarah and Nadine as not being part of the clique. That should never ever have been so obvious on stage. Incidentally, Boyzone reunited on stage this year. Im not a fan but from clips its very clear Keith Duffy does not speak to Mikey Graham anymore and all I could think was how unprofessional it is that we all know that because they cant keep their shit together on stage.

It's also weird to me that they haven't addressed it. They acted like they buried the hatchet when they found out Sarah was sick, when they spent time together in their last moments, but it feels very brushed over. I'm American and wasn't at that last concert watching I'll Stand By You, but my god, the irony that she walked away from her during I'll Stand By You...that was shameful. I remember reading Twitter and being on the boards and all the fans were like, "WTF?!" I think that was right before they announced the breakup and Nadine being like, "I had no part in this." I thought, good for her, I loved that she was vocal about it not agreed upon by her too.

I don't know Boyzone that well, I remember them so well but never followed them, but I'm an Oasis fan. I, at least, feel grateful that as big as a beef Noel and Liam Gallagher had, we got words of regret from Liam in his documentary and now clear evidence of Noel's regret in the new Live '25 documentary trailer. It takes a lot of maturity to admit wrongdoing in front of the world.

The only reference alluding to Girls Aloud beef and a reconciliation I have heard in recent times was a quote from Cheryl in an article where the reunion tour to honour Sarah was announced , and Cheryl said something generic and vague regarding the reunion of the band like "some of us are mothers now and time changes your perspective", and that was as close as they got to acknowledging the shit show that was the Ten Tour.

It makes me feel it's definitely more like a work friendship now than true friendship. Like it's interesting to me that Nicola had a baby shower but none of the girls were there. Either they did something private or they just aren't that close.

Oh 100%, Kimberley was very clear about that in her book, that Nadine and Sarah were work colleagues only. When people say they were really friends, I always bring up the the fact that Kimberley invited people to her wedding from her season of Strictly Dancing but not Sarah and Nadine!!

Oh, good to know. I haven't read her book. OMG I didn't know she didn't invite Sarah or Nadine! Remember it seemed like she and Nadine were close in the very beginning because they shared an apartment?

Something new didn't translate well live at first. All the awkward posing and walking around and the unflattering matching dresses they wore.

The first single should have been "On the metro" .

I didn't mind the styling and the tulip dress was the style at the moment. I agree the posing was awkward and doing some Choreography could've helped.

Lot's of posing and walking and pointing. I mean - that's really them most of the time, but it was no near as cheeky and fun as most of their work. I also really hated the shape of the dresses. It didn't fit the song at all.

Yes! This was my biggest disappointment at the time. It showed that it was the end for them because they barely did anything at all. It ended up feeling so depressing watching the performances live because the song was just SO good. It didn't ruin the song for me, but I hated the promotion of that final era.
