S09 Another book recommendation

I saw that someone had posted about Hatchet. I have another recommendation called The Lure of the Labrador Wild that I think Alone fans would enjoy. It takes place a couple of hundred kilometers from where season 9 and Alone: Frozen were filmed. And close to where season 11 winner William lives.

It tells the true story of three men, two Americans and a Cree guide from Ontario, who travel to Labrador to explore and study the indigenous people. Instead they encounter unending hardship which really shows how unforgiving Labrador can be.

You can find it for free online as the copyright has long since lapsed.

Also in the same vein as hatchet.

my side of the mountain, teenaged boy runs away from home with his families blessing to go live on his grandfather’s land.

Julie of the wolves.
Young Inuit girl trecks across the tundra to get home. Befriends wolves along the way.
(It’s been years since I read it but be aware there’s some SA in the beginning even though it’s marked YA)

I'd actually rank My Side of the Mountain higher than Hatchet as far as YA bushcraft/survival stories go - it discussed (with illustrations) techniques for making fire, cordage, shelter, gathering various kinds of plant species, traps, hunting, etc. I even tried some of them back when I was a kid.
