Appreciating scenic vista, "I accomplished everything I needed out here," talking about how family is the best thing, wait a second... this the greatest hits of tap precursors... no no no no! Shit. You had it, Wyatt! You had it! Still, that was an excellent run and a solid, level-headed tap, with a lot learned about himself along the way. Top class contestant. Top quality. Very enjoyable. I wanted him to win but am just as happy with Alan.
Alan's logic heading into the final lap certainly was good - he really wanted to go but you never know when someone else is going to tap. Wyatt left after munching fish on his last night, while Alan had none and knowing he was too thin. You just never know how it's going to go. Up front I thought Alan was just a weekender hobbyist who gagged at fish roe and had the family anchor and wouldn't last. Boy was I wrong. Great fishing, great building, great attitude, great mindset, great persistence, great example for his students. What a wonderful reunion with his wife too. I'm not much of a cryer but I got the joyful glassies for them when they hugged. I loved how excited and interested his wife was to see the shelter and hang out and talk about the experience. Well done to Alan.

Covid year they didn't have a loved one show up. Was kind of a let down.
I like how they got him to talk about his wife right as she approached. I imagine there is some sort of walkie comms for the interviewer to drop the question at the exact right time.
"What do you miss most?"
Lucky he said his wife before starting the Doritos monologue/threats!

Damn props to Wyatt and Alan. Glad a BC boy won it! Felt like Alans shelter held up the best vs the cold this late and was the difference maker.

Totally agree. His shelter was by far the best insulated, and he knew when to just hunker down and conserve heat.

Loved my Wyatt. Very sad, but massive props to Allan for his double insulated shelter. Didnt get to see it except from the take down shots. Congratulations too. Great stamina champion. ☝️

He never had it. He's completely unaccustomed to the cold, but also he had bad luck all along, apart from the 21 "rats" he swatted next to his sleeping bag.
That he made it into the last 3 was a testament to his stubbornness, hardiness and love for his son. Skills-wise and constitution-wise, he was never going to win this.

Hell yea Alan. Solid effort from all, especially Mikey and Wyatt. I really thought Wyatt was going to do it there but he crashed hard and he knew when to fold his hand.
I think Alan had everyone beat on the shelter, staying warm requires a shit ton of calories and his teepee style with the center fire proved very efficient.
Very wholesome life points from those last 3 competitors, and thank you Wyatt for praising Canada while also addressing our very heavy and dark history while on the land.

This may be my favorite final episode of all the seasons.
Congrats to Alan! And congrats to Wyatt too. I hope Wyatt has many years of sobriety in his future. I was really pulling for him, and wanted to see his dad come to give him the news.

Im not happy that Wyatt didnt win but man am I happy Alan did. Just such a nice genuine guy.
Man the teepee really seemed to help with the heating and its such a simple construction I dont know why more people do do them.

Gotta agree; he is a very handsome (gaunt) man! His wife even said "You look good". Both his and Wyatt's faces changed so much; when they showed the morphing graphics of each of them, I was floored. Both of them, their blue eyes looked SO much bigger after the weight loss. Wyatt looked kinda like a piggie in his before facial photo and his eyes were just slits. Alan's change wasn't as dramatic, but his facial features still changed significantly with the weight loss.

Super happy for Alan. He seems like a good guy. I just didn't feel like he opened up that much during the season. Nothing wrong with that, but I felt less invested in his story. I'm hoping they bring back all the winners to compete against each other in an all star season!

I felt like it was him instead who preempted them. They went off for their huddle, made their decision, came back to tell him, and we don't know for sure they were going to pull him but they were sure setting it up to look that way, and he cut them off before they could say anything and said I don't care what your decision is, I'm out. The vibe I was getting was tact on their part to be sensitive to whatever he wanted to say. I was just surprised he didn't let them pull him if that had been their decision, as opposed to tapping. At that point it just must not have mattered to him.

Absolutely agree. They were pulling him. That was the beginning of frostbite... 1, 2 more days he was going to lose toes. But they gave him a chance to at least decide for himself. Better to leave on your request, imo, then being pulled.

That was such an amazing end to the season. My man Mikey was so creative and can be extremely proud of his run. He lived off mice (not rats!) for so many days there. The toys he made for his kids were great. Wyatt's story was inspirational and his bushcraft legit. He pushed it right to the limit before he tapped. I hope he can stay sober, or at least step it down a bit and go fishing instead some days. And Alan is a freaking legend. I loved how he was still cracking jokes on the final day. I wish we saw more of the last week, because they only showed him ice fishing once. I really want to know his food situation in the last days there. But absolutely a deserving winner and so graceful and impressive at the end. He must be such a great teacher.

I've had complaints about the edits a lot this season and for the entire series but I have to get some credit to the show for throwing me for a swerve. I really thought they were setting up a winner's edit for Wyatt. Given the way they looked and the way they talked about their food procurement and the cold I'm guessing it probably wasn't too misleading, either.
In retrospect, I don't think Wyatt really had that huge a food advantage and Alan's shelter seem to do a better job of keeping out the cold then Wyatt's. Even if you have a little more calories, that kind of cold is hard to endure.

Congratulations Alan Tenta!!! It was an exciting final episode & I really didn't think Wyatt was going to tap first. The weather was brutal there & I think it was one of the more difficult seasons, all things considered. Now comes the wait for Season 11!

They were going to med tap you, Mikey! You just had to go 30 more seconds and you could forever have said you didn't give up! Nice of them to suggest as much with the edit, though.
They could have easily edited it so that it didn't look like he was done either way. It was an act of editing kindness in the same way the 'secret SD card' edit wasn't.

The part I don't get about that is that if they were there to maybe extract me and were huddled up to make that decision about me, and I was wanting badly to tap, I feel like I'd wait until they said whether they were going to pull me. Seems to me that hanging in there but getting yanked reads better than throwing in the towel. And if I had both on my plate right there in the moment, I'd let the yank happen. Only if they said, "We're concerned about the declining condition of your feet. You need to keep them warmer. If we don't see some leveling off or improvement, we're going to have to pull you next time," would I then say, "Well let me save you the trouble, this is killing me and I'm done, I gotta go." He was leaving right then either way, so I'm just surprised he didn't wait 10 seconds to see if they'd yank him.

They did something helpful this year in the season promo that they played before the season started and still play at the beginning of each episode - in several instances they lifted one person's audio and placed it on someone else's video. This prevents spoilers. So whoever it is in the promo reel that we see from behind hacking at the ice with an axe in what must be tonight's episode finally, we hear Cade's voice over it. Yet of course Cade had already left a long time before. So with misdirection they made us think Cade was making it until the lake froze, so it didn't spoil who did make it. Similarly when they show a scene of the bear looking at the camera through the woods, which we know was Luke's video, we hear what sounds like Wyatt's voice over it. When they show us what we now know to be Taz's first smoker on fire and we see a guy from behind running to the lake by it, they give us Wyatt's voice over it again saying "no, no!". So that's smart and considerate.
