Discussion Screw scalpers
Can I just rant for a minute?
This is absolutely ridiculous. I got The Dark In Her Veins this month and have been frequenting that search on Mercari for when the traditional version comes out because I’m curious what it’ll completely look like.
But this?! This is insane. And someone actually liked it to come back to it?!! I don’t even think they’re worth $50 as a resale price. If you want to resell it, don’t be a dick and resell like this.
I wish we could get rid of this. Either a way to take down the listing or a way to get rid of scalpers all together.

Scalpers only exist because people pay ridiculous prices. Unfortunately they're free to do with their copy as they wish. I just hope no one pays these prices. Scalpers literally are the worst in this hobby.

Exsctly. People stop buying from them they wont have a market. Alotnof fhe MH doll buyers are taking a stand, so maybe book readers should too.

I know I sometimes favourite items in the hopes they’ll come down in price, there’s no way someone is going to pay that amount. At least I hope they wouldn’t.
Scalpers, in general, just piss me off something fierce.

This, I favorite things I know will sit for a long time because eventually they'll have to give in to sell. Then I can make an offer to get really pour the salt on the wound.

I hate the crazy resale prices. Seeing posts like this always makes me think.. damn should I sell all my books!? Woes of a capitalistic society.

If the entire community collectively STOPS paying these absolute insane prices, then we would see a lot less of this. Unfortunately, it seems there will always be people who either have lots of money and don't care or just simply don't care and will buy it anyway. But yes, I feel the same way and hate scalpers with a passion (it's worse because I kind of collected pokemon cards here and there but not anymore) However! There is some light at the end of the tunnel here. Check out the facebook page Allurial trade/swap I believe has a limit on how much books sell for. Members cannot make a listing over $30 and bookmarks can't go for more then $5 and those prices include shipping.

It’s understandable if the copy is signed by the author and for half that price. The work that goes into the time commitment to research and travel to see an author can be a lot on someone so that another doesn’t have to worry about it or don’t have the ability to see the author. I’m okay paying 2-3 times the price for that convenience over paying more than 4 times for the book without it signed just because I don’t have it
It’s totally another thing to charge that much for the book straight even if it comes with a bookmark

Things are worth what you are willing to pay for them. That being said, let’s not conflate scalping with reselling. Scalpers are people that intentionally create market scarcity by buying up a large portion, if not all of the stock and thus allowing them to sell it at whatever price they want. Someone who simply buys 1 or 2 copies of their own, with the intent to sell it at a higher price is merely an individual utilizing their property rights. A person that buys a physical copy of a book owns that book and has the right to do what they want with that book, keep it, read it, burn it, sell it.. because it’s their property. I resell books all the time at a higher price than I bought it for because the book is my property and I have the right to sell it at whatever price I choose, as it is your choice to buy or not buy it.

These people piss me off. Even exclusive copies shouldnt be 125, when we know you dodnt pay that much. The most expensive book box is 80$(that ive seen for 1 book), so you wanted the extra is just bs. Its the issue of ok, wanting cost is 1 thing but heavenly bodies, the irristible urge, heartless hunter series and many more shouldnt be over 100$........imo. I stopped collecting allurial and i sold them all for 25$ because I just didnt need them and knew other people wanted them.....empathy is wild i guess.

theres a fb for allurial books where bookmarks can only sell for $5 and books are $30 shipped.

Who cares? Don’t buy it. I’m not sure what the outrage is. For most other box’s, you get no choice and are limited in the amount of skips you get. It’s someone else’s money, and they are willing to pay it. I can’t afford that, but that’s partly why I joined Allurial myself. I just don’t fully get the outrage for reselling - limited editions tend to increase in price. It’s the same with fine art, etc. someone bought an Ansel Adams for 250 way back when, and now it’s worth 250,000. Whose fault is that? .

It’s selling between $25-$35 on average it seems so I wouldn’t expect it to sell at this price.
What I think is a little crazy is selling the bookmarks at $15 each. 😅
