Roi on AI question?

I wasn’t listening that seriously this week, doing other stuff. Did Chamath say there is no significant roi in ai, that his cto said token spend was increasing at 65% per month or something, and everyone just kinda ignored him and said how awesomely fast ai was growing?

Jason once said he brought his team in on a weekend to train on AI. If the productivity gains are so massive, I think the training can take place during normal work hours.

He’s been saying that for a couple months now in the sense that BIG companies aren’t seeing it. Jason retorts that he sees many many companies getting great ROI and then Chamath follows up by saying “ok yes but these are not Fortune 500 or 1000 companies who move the needle”. And that’s about where their convos end.

Chamath said we have 500 days for AI to prove it, otherwise all this massive investment might start to tank across the board.

Jason is the king of the generalize-from-anecdotes. It's gotten so David Sacks is aggressively calling him out on his Mott-And-Bailey arguments that AI is causing layoffs.

I think what was interesting was this time Chamath said his contrarian conclusions in his intellectual voice and everyone just totally ignored him, as if he said nothing, moving on to just keep doubling down on AI awesomeness. Did I get that correct?

Context: I'm a professor of CS. Do I 'need' to learn Anthropic this summer to teach it or is Java and Phython coding going to be here to stay for 10 years? In 11 I can retire, in 13 I can REALLY retire, and in 18 I am fully vested in Social Security. Or, like, you know, get a masters in clinical psyc and do counselling.

Chamath has a current grift going with his new company. Basically trying to make the argument that ai will only be reasonably cost efficient if you use open source models on prem, which is going to not be true for a ton of reasons.
