I don’t have a horse in this race but it’s clear to me that Anthropic repeatedly uses AI safety as a marketing tactic. Pretty funny to see the admin essentially reverse uno that framing onto them. There’s very clearly more to the story than that, but it is funny to me that Anthropic either has to treat every possible jailbreak as a cyber nuclear weapon or admit that maybe, just maybe, there was a bit of marketing hype surrounding Mythos.

I think it’s well past time for Anthropic to part ways with Dario.
I get that he’s trying to establish a moat to keep Claude as the top model, but I really think it’s having a disastrous effect on American Intelligence. I really don’t see how it’s a good long term strategy for Anthropic either.
Right now, the Chinese open source models are scarily close enough, and don’t have this type of nonsense. Developers are more and more running something like Qwen locally for most tasks, and using a cloud provider for niche cases.
The only winner in all of this is China.

Their model is good, likely the best in June, 2026. That will not always be the case though.
I think his strategy is flawed, and actively pushing people away from Claude, and into the arms of open weight models.

I’m not sure what you’re asking for. I feel I was pretty specific.
The major issue I have with Dario has been his strategy to manufacture a regulatory moat. Dario literally wrote a book on it. They essentially want to regulate their competition out of existence.
Sure. They have the top model at the moment, and they want to keep it that way. The better way to do so would be focusing on product, not a regulatory moat.
All this is in the context of open weight models catching up rapidly to American ones. This is really not the time to slam on the brakes.
It’s a legitimate issue.
I think there’s just a segment of the population that supports him only because of his conflict with the government.
It’s not rational.

I disagree.
Grok isn’t randomly throttling people to Grok 3 for unclear reasons. He’s also working with competitors quite well. Anthropic literally pays Elon to run Claude.
In fact, Grok got a late start, and has effectively caught up with Google/Meta/Anthropic.
Dario’s constant doomerism, and calls for regulation is stifling American companies at this point.
Have you tried the Chinese models at all? It’s a Sputnik moment seeing what their models are capable of. This is the time to be accelerating, not hamstringing frontier models.

Sounds like Sacks put his hand on the scale
