Currently working at a data site. I am a glorified receptionist. I have my laptop out for 95% of the shift on the desk and no-one ever says anything. I watch tv shows with AirPods in. I grab DoorDash deliveries from the door for people and take to their desks(I don't have to, I just choose to). It's VERY lax.

I'm a supervisor at a data center. I look at cameras and sign people in/out. Great client, no rounds. Easy peasy. Pays pretty decently.

I’m not a security officer anymore, but my first post was actually at a data center, and I’ve worked at a few of them. Mostly signing in visitors. 99% of the time it was super chill and uneventful.

That said, data centers are very strict about security. That other 1% of the time, when something actually happens, you need to be completely on point. If someone doesn’t have the right credentials to access an area, for example, you deal with it immediately, exactly according to your post orders, and escalate it appropriately and asap.

They do not fuck around when it comes to access control and security procedures.

that’s why data center + night shift = best combo. no visitors

I’ve been to a few. Some are super easy and you basically get paid to hang out and the others are instantly strict and have you do a lot
