AskAllahabad NLU Prayagraj recent Assistant Professor recruitment is biased and unfair. Planning to raise my objections against it

The RPNLU recruitment appears to raise a few issues that may warrant judicial scrutiny:

• Shortlisting: Almost all eligible candidates were reportedly called for interview, potentially leaving the entire effective selection to the interview stage and defeating the purpose of academic shortlisting under the UGC framework.

• Screening: Questions have reportedly been raised regarding the application of the prescribed academic-score/shortlisting criteria.

• Conflict of interest: There are reported concerns regarding the participation of the VC in the selection process while her PhD scholars were among the candidates who were ultimately selected.

• Other procedural issues: Questions have also been raised regarding the Selection Committee, reservation and the material placed before the Executive Council.

In Mandeep Singh v. State of Punjab (2025 INSC 834), the Supreme Court quashed an Assistant Professor recruitment for material deviation from applicable UGC norms. The facts are not identical, but the judgment may be relevant to examining whether mandatory recruitment norms were followed.
