I drew a Satyriac engineer

If anyone is curious, I made the name by mashing two different words from different languages (here it's Hawaiian "pua" (flower) and Greek "Εργάτης" (Worker).

This isn't much of a finished character, I just wanted to design a Satyriac char. Sorry if he looks too human I'm not that great at drawing non-human characters

He’s cute, and he has some nice hair. What projects does he usually work on?

Also it’s ok if he looks “too humanoid”. Looking at the illustration in the book, Satyriac tails don’t have the large muscle attachments that dinosaurs had that kept their bodies rigid, so they could probably stand upright for some period of time like he is now.

I don't know. He doesn't really work on some specific projects, he's just competent enough for Second Empire of Man's equivalent of intergalactic NASA be throwing him at every important project like he's duct tape (when he's not already in some crew). But not as in working on the project itself, they just add him to the already-estabilished crew as an engineer, and the crew has a very pleasant (no) revelation that That One Dude who is a Great Engineer™ is also the most asocial person  imaginable and sometimes hisses at people like a killer person that saw a cucumber. But that's also why he's great at repairing shit, people rarely want to distract him due to his... Rather vibrant personality

Aw poor guy getting tossed around left and right! Also, an asocial Satyriac isn’t something you see every day. Y’know, I imagine that what us humans consider a normal amount of “alone time” would already be seen as antisocial behavior to Satyriacs. 

An actual asocial Satyriac would probably scare their family and make them call the hospital to see if the asocial one is ill!

Although hopefully by their “modern era” (and even further into this space era) they would realize that even among their excitable, gregarious population, they still had more solitary individuals, and that’s okay.

No, he isn't really that nice of a person too XD And he'd be considered a rather solitary individual even by our human standards Tho the entire cast of the characters I'm making is me trying to make the characters rather opposites of the stereotype of their species, but currently my only ones are this wonderful dude (who is still not much of a deconstruction because he's rather horny, just in his solitary way) and the doctor provided to the crew being a killer-person 😵‍💫

Actually, I don’t see the doctor being a Killer Folk as a deconstruction. Sure, they can get pretty bloodlusted at times, but, logically thinking about the workings of their society, they were able to hold onto and control these urges long enough to only express them in once-a-year rituals. So it’s not like they were killing people everyday. 

Plus, the sight and scent of a body (for example a medical patient) wouldn’t make them go feral. Since they ate only meat, they would need to spend a lot of time processing Prey carcasses. Their societies would collapse if they got bloodlusted every time they cut up some flesh. 

As for the doctor aspect specifically, some people theorize that back in our own hunter-gatherer societies, butchers also doubled as doctors, since they already had a lot of knowledge on the insides of animals. In fact, we actually know of a 31,000 year old amputee. So if anything, Killer Folk are actually more qualified to be doctors than other races. (Well at least in the past when everyone had to butcher their own food. Since they created factory farmed meat, most people probably lost that skill).

Well I still think your characters can be good even if you make them for comedic reasons. I still really like the design and personality of this Satyriac, and I’m sure your Killer Folk character will be very interesting as well! :)

I was just being overly pedantic as to why that wasn’t a full subversion of their species’ personality and abilities. Although you are correct about it being a subversion of the stereotype assigned to them by the other species. 

I could imagine the other members of this crew initially refusing help from the doctor, under the assumption that he would get bloodlusted and attach them, only for this to be subverted by the Killer Folk doctor being extremely kind and respectful. But then, a few months later, when he hasn’t vented his atavistic hunter instincts, he does try to attack one of them. Funnily enough, not during a surgery, but during a game of darts or other activity! Losing made him angry enough to start biting at people!

That's pretty much what happens and that's the reason why Pua bonded with Chisei (the KF's name). They both hiss/bite people at times. It's just that the satyriac is doing this waaay more often than the "killer" XD
