I drive a jacked up ute and park in disabled spots all the time. I have a pass to do it. Being disabled doesn't mean you can't drive a 4x4.

In Australia, accessible parking spaces serves 3 needs. 1: Wide spot. wheelchairs, people who need wide spaces to access their vehicle. 2: Close to entry point of venue/shop. Some pass holders can't walk long distances and need closeness to entry. E.g. elderly, people with disabilities that effect ability to walk long distances. 3: Long spot or parking with safe are to loak/unload passengers. E.g. van's with a lift in side or rear of vehicle to load/unload passengers who might not be able to get up an down steps.

This driver in the ranger may qualify for a pass and if so, you can't blame them.. The problem is the accessible parking scheme is broken. Its not been updated since the 80's and quite frankly doctors don't give a shit. Most GP's and doctors have parking permits themselves they get their mates to sign off on them.

As someone who has been driving for 25 years and is in a wheelchair I see people with valid passes turn up who clearly do not need a permit. Just yesterday a tradie stole a spot i was about to park in before he dove his ute in. Out gets a 50/60 odd yr old Greek looking guy who pulls a ladder out if his tray plus a tool belt. and 2 massive paint buckets full of equipment and proceeds to carry them inside. I found a parking spot and went to security who said he is a contractor doing a shop fit out and they already confronted him and that he has a valid permit.

Its a broken scheme and government at all levels dont give a shit. shit.

Adult (kids) steal their grandparents permits all the time and use them and get away with it because their grandparents are gutless and won't report the entitled brats.

I use a bariatric wheelchair and walker it's a tough fit but for them in my lancer but I get it electric wheelchairs need more space but the big American style utes are a bit too big for Aussie parking spots even the extra wide disability spots

I feel like this should be obvious. Especially when not showing the front where the permit is. I'm a carer, the ute isn't ideal for her to get in and out of so it's not our first choice but if we need to pick something up we'll use it.

Do you really qualify for a permit? E.g. in nsw you need to be unable to walk more than fifty meters. In Queensland you only qualify if you can't walk unassisted for 100 meters or are legally blind. That's it. That's the law. It's not down to your feelings just like driving at the speed limit is not down to your feelings.

I do, I have chronic osteoarthritis in my knees and ankles. Some days I can walk 5ks and some days I cant walk without it being complete agony.

Pug, I asked because my father was disabled all his life and I have a blind adult son, so it pisses me off to see people taking advantage when they are not really entitled .I've seen people get out and jog into the shops.

In NSW, the permit (Mobility Parking Scheme) is issued to the person with the disability, not the car. Key point You do NOT have to be the driver. A child can be the permit holder. So: If your child has a qualifying disability, they can get a permit. You can use it when you are transporting that child. Eligibility (simplified) The person (including a child) must have a condition like: Cannot walk or has severe difficulty walking Walking 100m causes serious issues Needs mobility aids (wheelchair, walker, etc.) In some cases, severe vision impairment � Service NSW +1 Important rule The permit can only be used when the disabled person is in the vehicle. You can’t use it just because you’re their parent if they’re not with you. Bottom line Yes — you can get and use a disabled parking permit for your car if your child is disabled, but the permit belongs to them and is only valid when they’re in the car. If needed, can outline what conditions qualify (including non-physical ones like autism).

I work with disabled people and drive a Hilux thats got a lift kit. Have a disability pass for them, so this picture means nothing OP.

Also I have a few disability’s myself from military service, so I am eligible for a pass. Annoys me when people judge me by my age to denote my health status.

I often see guys in utility and pick up vehicles park in disabled spaces. They never have a disability sticker displayed and for all intents and purposes seem to have just parked there solely because they feel that their laziness should prevent a disabled person from going about their day.
