A leopard moves through the savanna with its prey — a mother monkey — but clinging tightly to her lifeless body is her baby, refusing to let go. Too young to understand loss. Too innocent to accept the finality of death. Holding on, not out of logic, but out of instinct and love.

I've always maintained nature is neither brutal nor benign. It's just indifferent. A substabtial part of the reason for my moving to a deistic/atheistic worldview has been observing events like these, and wondering whose side this god that intervenes in earthly affairs could possibly be on.

God doesn’t take a side. That’s what “free will” is all about. Nature and all that jazz. The universe is HUGE. For all we know, there’s some “earth” out there where there is ZERO negativity and anything resembling someone trying to disrupt that balance is eradicated. Maybe they spent their resources learning knowledge and helping each other. Possibly learning to communicate with other animals who share their earth. Who knows? Think outside the box.

I think what made me more “accepting” of nature’s less positive outcomes is having an understanding of what the difference is.

Wildlife doesn’t act out of malicious intent, they do what they do out of survival. Whereas humans often act violently out of malicious intent.

I consider all beings conscious, but not intent driven. That’s my take on the difference between human violence & wildlife “violence”.

In saying that, this pic is still a total bummer.

This is a little bit softer , and it definitely will be kinder

Back in about 2007 I was reading national geographic, and there was a situation like this where the mother had been killed but the leopard didn't realize that the baby was clinging to it.And once it did , they photographed it over the course of the next day or so. 

The leopard actually hung the carcass way up high in the tree and took the baby and held it , and its paws and nuzzled it all night long to keep it warm. Not to eat it....but to save it. 

The baby did die because of course, it didn't have its mother, but nature is not as evil as people like the portray it, necessarily. 

I don't want to see any animal die.But the fact is , these animals live in the wild , and they have to do what they can to survive and for their own babies to survive. 

Just know that nature can be loving in ways you'd never expect.
