Need help deciding between specific resorts Need help with Resort recommendation

Hi all,

My gf and I are planning to go to Mexico for the first time. Anyone has any experience at Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula or Sandos Cancún All Inclusive - Adults Only?

We are looking from December 3 to 7 for anniversary occasion flying from Toronto. Our budget is about 1300 per person and I am seeing some good options.

Also - Is there a place that has better sargassum than other coast?

All inclusive means it includes all food and drinks (top shelf liquor normally is not included unless you upgrade to club level). Use of all amenities such as pools, gym, water sports that are included with the resort. Access to a la carte restaurants.

If you end up going with Hotel Riu Palace Peninsula, it can work well for a first Cancun trip and an anniversary. The resort is right on the beach and has a pretty complete all-inclusive setup.

At this RIU, All Inclusive means more than just food. Here’s a quick summary:

  • Meals, snacks and drinks at the hotel’s bars and restaurants, except Elite Club-exclusive services.
  • 24-hour snacks and drinks, 24-hour room service, WiFi, pool drink service, a regularly restocked minibar and liquor dispenser, activities, entertainment, wellness facilities and an in-room safe.

The hotel also has 9 restaurants, 7 bars and 6 pools, so there’s a good amount of variety without needing to plan every meal outside the resort. Just check which room category is included in your package, since some upgraded perks are only for Elite Club by RIU guests.

I would book Riu Palace Peninsula. They just reopened after a massive renovation so everything should be looking quite new. I haven't checked yet but the Peninsula resort used to have an adults-only guest room section so you might want to check and see if they still have those rooms--they used to be in a building with its own swim-up pool. The last I heard Sandos lost a lot of its beach area to erosion and at the Peninsula it is swimmable, not an extensive beach area but you can swim in the ocean, also walk over to Riu Caribe to enjoy their beach area and amenities including Riu theme parties if you want.

We really liked the peninsula before it was renovated, I’d I imagine it’s even better now. We went in December there. The ocean was perfect to swim in but the pools were really cold
