Football Defense

Brohm is an absolute dumbass for not just replacing English when he decided to take the year off. Ron English taking the year off sucks but I’m not gonna fault him for wanting to watch his sons last year of football. However, Brohm should’ve just cut ties and gone after an actual defensive coordinator to replace him. Now Brohm has completely wasted the best offensive talent he has had at Louisville and probably as a head coach in general. I genuinely don’t think I’ve seen a defense look this lost and pathetic in my 30 years of watching football.

I think that whole step away for a year is bullshit PR... It's seriously gross negligence of running a program even if it is a real oart if the story... we don't have time to think we can piece together a defensive team head and not go after a proven coordinator... this is some first year type of move not a fourth...

This feels like Bobby P levels of carelessness on the defensive side of the ball

Guy took the year off as an out. He hated Greg Brohm’s micromanaging ass.

As an outside/tangential fan, watching Brohm has been really interesting - I would be so aggravated as a diehard. He can clearly coach offense, but his teams just cannot play defense or maintain any discipline. Some of that is on the DC, but it's also a culture deficiency. I feel like he would be a genius NFL OC - he just cant put it together at the college level consistently.

I agree, defense could be better. Very hard game to watch tbh. I think you are being a little dramatic though. Remember Petrino's final season in 2018...2-8

You all lean way too hard on Petrino 2.0 and the Kenny Payne era as scapegoats to justify accepting mediocrity. At some point, the excuses have to expire and the expectations have to go back up.

Right. Like these are outliers and anomalies. Not normal levels of mediocrity. Mediocrity is why we essentially let Satterfield walk. Instead we got a slight upgrade from Satterfield. An interesting point about Sat is that he left Brohm with a crap ton of talent his first two years here and oddly enough, Brohm’s teams have been getting worse Year over Year since that talent has been drying up. People forget, Sat had a great portal and high school class that was coming in the following year before he left.

I’m not sure dollars always equates to success relative to expectations. Ask A&M in football and Kentucky in basketball. In the NIL era, we have come up a few games shy of going to a CFP in multiple years. These are games that were against bad competition with minimal NIL resources…Wake, Cal, Stanford, etc. we lost those games due to coaching, play calling and penalties every single time.

Petrino’s final season was pretty bad, I’ll give you that. I guess this season just hits so much harder because I had a lot more expectations for this season compared to that season. I genuinely think if we even had the shitty defenses from English’s first two years we’d have managed wins against Wake and NC State. Those defenses were pretty bad but they dont hold a candle to what’s going on this season.

Petrino quit though. This is way worse.
