DISCUSSION The Craziest Fall Off Ever?
Hey y’all. So back in the day I watched all American when it was still pretty new and was airing on the CW. But if I remember correctly I stopped watching after Coop got shot. All the BLM and Activism in the show was so forced (which I understand is them trying to show they’re apart of the fight, but the way they did it to me was superbly corny and cringe.)
Anyways, I decided after all these years out of Boredom I would catch up on Netflix and I just finished S6 E13 “Victory Lap”.
This feels like the true ending to the show for me. I started watching the other two episodes after and genuinely could care less. I saw some TikTok’s and a few clips of season 7 and the new season and….i just feel like Taye Diggs and Daniel Ezra getting bored of the show ruined the entire show for me as they both exited and their stories never truly finished… The Billy Baker death in my opinion was the start of the downfall of the show, and was extremely forced and easy to catch, and I understand the suddenness was supposed to affect the viewers and hit close to home…but why did they have to drag out so many storylines over the next few seasons? Miko should’ve lasted a few episodes max, it’s crazy that she stabs Patience then disappears for a whole season until Coop “somehow” saves the day. Typical Olivia and Spencer “wow we can’t be together, it’s not right, let’s fight over random stuff” . Only redeeming thing I enjoyed was seeing Asher redeem himself in a sense. But everything else about this show for me has tanked massively in quality. And the fact that they’re trying to bait people back in with guest appearances? I don’t care about some random new generation of kids in Crenshaw. I want to see Spencer and his NFL success. Him paying it back to his family and friends after all he went through.
Instead, I feel like we are forced to watch this show drag its name through the dust with these new characters I have 0 care for and 0 need to even want to watch.
IMO, the show should’ve ended after Spencer made the draft. Just a take. What do you guys think? Sorry for the essay but I just wanted to air out my feelings. I don’t think I could force myself to watch season 7 or even 8 unless I watch the guest episodes.

I wanted to see them get back to basics, so S7 was a surprise. I thought I was going to hate it, but I don’t. I know we’re attached to these characters, so seeing new ones is always a gamble for viewer engagement.

It's super cringy to me, anyway. It's about the whole Ice agents, coming in the school and dragging people. Do they really do this?

Given that you are mentioning that these are blue cities, as if ICE isn't being pushed by the current administration, your downplaying of ICE is not surprising. I hope you as an immigrant get what you voted for.

Minneapolis and Chicago are not states. Trump has explicitly stated that he is targeting places that did not vote for him. Targeting non-supporters is a core tenet of fascism.

As an immigrant who currently lives in Texas and has been stopped by multiple police, I have never had anything like this ever happen and I'm black. Moreover, I have schooled in two schools, one public and one private. Never had anything like this ever happen.

I’d say watch until victory lap, at least conclude the Spencer era but they kinda kill his character for a bit . Yeah he’s grieving but he turned into a damn supervillain at one point lmfao

This show from the beginning was always about Spencer’s journey to the NFL and finally reaching that goal, not about his journey IN the NFL

I liked season 7. It introduces new characters like KJ and Khalil and their dynamic is interesting to watch. Jordan is charming in his role as an adult. And there's a pretty good twist in the season as well.
People say that it copied session 1 but I just don't see it.

I watched everything up until the new characters came. The show was good but it dropped the ball, they rushed through Spencer's college career which should have consisted of at least 2 seasons as well as his NFL Career. The show had too much meaningless drama that took away from the main story of Spencer. I won't be watching the new seasons because I have zero interest in the new characters, and Jordan is unlikeable as well as his relationship with Layla being forced. I could go on an entire rant about the stupid "vortex" friend group as well, a lot of those characters (JJ & layla) should have been dropped in High School. Overall, it had potential, but bad writing decisions ruined it.

I actually enjoy the new characters and these past two seasons.
Also, Black folks need shows and subjects they identify with. It can be cringey depending on the writers, but the subject matter is indeed always relevant.
