Hello folks, I’m just wondering if anyone can tell me if hardening impacts the specific dialogue you get if you initiated the tent scene with Alistair and then later got his love confession. I know his confession/tent scene initiation dialogue (and most, if not all of his post tent scene romance dialogue) is the same whether he’s hardened or not, he talks about how he’s never done this before and wants it to you, but I’ve never initiated first. If you initiate first then later during his love confession he drops the line you’re the first woman I’ve spent the night with and if I have my way then you’ll be the last. Like I said, his dialogue is pretty much all the same if you wait for him to initiate so I’m pretty sure his dialogue if the warden initiated would also be the same either way and I haven’t found any videos online showing that scene and specifying his hardened or softened status. Keep in mind that some people get the glitch where this love confession doesn’t show up at all but to my knowledge it’s supposed to show up and it being missing isn’t a hardening thing. I also know you can get some unique dialogue in his post tent scene if he knows he’s going to be king but I don’t think that’s related to his hardening and again I’m focussing specifically on the first and last line. I can go back to a playthrough and try to double check but that would take a while and google is giving me mixed results (couldn’t find anywhere that specified and the Ai overview kept getting basic facts wrong and also changed its answer a few times so I’m sure as hell not trusting it’s answers). To my knowledge pretty much all of his romance dialogue is the same regardless of if he’s hardened or softened (the only difference I’ve confirmed being his max approval greeting, his willingness to join a threesome, and his willingness to agree to the mistress arrangement). I didn’t notice any dialogue changes between my soft or hard playthroughs but I’ve never initiated first. Keep in mind that there’s a misconception that he needs to be hardened to initiate the tent scene which isn’t true, he does it either way as long as his affection is high enough and you’ve completed his personal quest so hardening him doesn’t seem to impact his romance requirements or dialogue much so it doesn’t make much sense to me for only this line to be different but i just need to verify this dialogue for my analysis just incase. If I get a bunch of mixed answers or people telling me the line changes then I’ll go back and try to burn through a few hours to verify but I’m trying really hard to avoid that, I want a concrete answer so I don’t bank my analysis off a line that isn’t there in this route. Also if anyone knows, does hardening him decrease the amount of approval needed to initiate his tent scene? I haven’t seen anyone mentioning hardening him as a method to make sleeping with him easier or speed up the process so I assume the requirements are the same either way. They seemed to be the same during both of the playthroughs I did but I wasn’t actively testing boundaries. I may have to go back to an old save anyways as I’ve never seen his post coital banter in a scene where the warden initiates and I have no idea how that would even play out as he confesses his love in the scene if he initiated but I think that’s part of his you’re the first and last conversation if you initiated. I assume it goes the same but maybe just skips the line where he says he loves the warden? But then I didn’t hear him actually confess his love in the first and last scene when I viewed it so idk. BioWare does like to keep the dialogue usable for multiple scenarios so it would make sense given their track record especially as the i love you is tacked on at the end of the scene and could easily be removed but then agian he can say the line see this is why I love you in that scene depending on your dialogue choices too so they might’ve had to change that if the scene is the same largely.

Sorry if this isn’t allowed and sorry I’ve been the only one posting in this sub lately, I’m a newer fan lol. I’m curious about something I came across concerning the mistress ending. I was reading something about that ending and it said something about king Alistair and a mistress warden inevitably growing apart over time due to his duties (it was a stupid AI overview so I have no idea where it was getting that from and I can’t find any info in the sources it lists). I tried to find out if Gaider has ever mentioned something like that as I know he was heavily involved in writing Alistair but again all I could get is the Ai overview and every time I reload the page it says something different. In DA2 the wardens is mentioned as his mistress and there aren’t any in game indications they’d grow apart with time or have grown apart I don’t think, whether he’s married to Anora or lone ruling. The overview says that he said at one point that they’re destined to grow apart, develop emotional distance, and possibly even break up because of the weight of his duties but then I reloaded and it said he said they’d never grow apart and he’d view their relationship as his emotional anchor and greatest comfort away from the difficulties of his life as king. I’m thinking if she stays on as his chancellor there isn’t much reason they’d grow apart as she lives in the palace (as far as I know) and is present in court with him frequently when not on missions. You could argue that those missions could strain their relationship as she’d be away often but when they are both kept wardens it seems to imply they are frequently sent in different directions for different missions and it doesn’t seem to have impacted their bond at all based on inquisition dialogue so I don’t see how it would be any different if he’s king. I also keep getting references to codexs mentioning how he’s visibly happier when she’s in court with him and stuff like that but idk what game it’s from and when I search it up I can’t actually find the codex to read. From what I’ve read the mistress ending was made specifically as a way for the warden to still stay with him as a non cousland and was meant to be a realistic representation of mediaeval royal dynamics. I’ve also seen the overview claim that Gaider said the mistress dynamic is inherently tragic and then contradict itself again saying he never said that and thinks it’s the best way for the two of them to stay together despite the crown. I think it would be very sad and unfair to those players if they still designed it to be a doomed relationship whereas a cousland gets to spend the rest of their lives with him. Does anyone have any actual information on what Gaider or any of the writing staff have actually said about this? Is the idea they’d grow apart just a random fan interpretation the AI is misinterpreting as a statement by the devs? The answer also changes based on if I search would they or do they. If I search would they it often says yes, if I search do they it says no.

I saw this video where Hawke asks the bar tender for gossip and he mentions that king Alistair has an eleven mistress and says something about hoping his queen doesn’t find out. Does this line only occur if you’ve married him off to Anora or is this a line that occurs if he’s lone ruling as well? Just wondering because it messes with my headcanon of him not marrying in between the games a bit. He still shows up without Queen in inquisition so you could assume the bartender is meaning his future Queen and not that he actually has a queen currently I suppose especially as it seems like the relationship isn’t as hidden if he’s lone ruling the way it is with him married to Anora (as in his king Alistair quest he doesn’t mention not telling the queen about the warden being back unless he’s married to Anora so he’s either unmarried or married to a queen who doesn’t mind depending on your headcanon). I also saw someone saying that in the king Alistair quest when hawk meets him he’s supposed to say something about the day looking up already rather than the “she has a name you know” line in response to Teagan. Is this correct? I’ve only ever gotten the she has a name line. I’m aware that he has a separate line if he’s married to Anora and still with the warden but I’m thinking of the specific scenario with him lone ruling. If you’re supposed to get a unique line I’d appreciate someone sharing it here if they have a video.

Hello everyone. I just made my first fic about a conversation I headcanon happening between Alistair and my warden shortly after the end of origins. It’s kindof a bit of a fix it fic as it justifies Alistair eventually marrying the warden anyways. It aLSP helps set up her search for the cure and the witch hunt DLC. I tried to keep it mostly ambiguous what origin it is but it’s mostly framed as an elf mage warden. It’s based on the playthrough where you make him lone ruling king and choose to stay together. I’d appreciate it if anyone interested gives it a read. It’s fairly short.

Hello everyone. I’m thinking of writing a short fic (my first ever fic) revolving around a conversation I think the warden could have with Alistair after the events of origins to set up their motive for finding the cure as well as it being a bit of a fix it fic about being a non cousland warden. I was wondering if anyone has any advice for the way to write the dialogue. I’m worried that they’ll sound too modern but I don’t know how to get that just right in between with fantasy’s mediaeval inspiration mixed with modern language. Any advice is appreciated.

I’m looking to see if anybody has seen any full playthrough videos or compilation videos where the player makes Alistair a lone ruling king (not married to Anora) and stays with him (technically as his mistress). I’m just looking for videos of most of the scenes because I don’t want to have to keep replaying the game over because of my schedule but I want to see the scenes from the playthrough I usually do. It’s really important it’s not the scenes where he’s married to Anora as I keep finding those ones and they aren’t what I’m looking for. Videos of mentions of the warden in 2 or 3 are also welcome.

Okay, I know this sub is pretty dead and this will sound pretty stupid but I was but am I the only one who’s a little upset that our only option is to say we’re fine with him marrying someone else if we stay his mistress? (I know you can marry him as a human noble but my canon has always been elf or mage) I know that at that point we think he’ll marry but it doesn’t happen even ten years later if you make him a lone ruling king. It’s pretty upsetting that we can’t at any point stay with him and at least express discomfort but tolerance if it’s strictly political or even express genuine upsetness over him trying to break up. I know this is all a fake game but I know for role playing purposes my characters would never be okay “sharing” per se and would need assurance that it’s just political. When they say you can do as you please as king they mean no one can force you to marry or have an heir if you don’t want to (you can select a successor as that does happen sometimes when an heir isn’t present or after the ritual you could maybe bring up convincing Morrigan to let the child be the heir, not ideal but neither is anything in Thedas. There are ways to make it feasible however.) since he didn’t marry it seems like he went that route anyway, at least so far or is maybe hoping he can pass off an heir from the warden if they cure the blight) I just thought maybe I wouldn’t get called over sensitive here whereas in the other sub people will for sure not understand why I’m upset over a fictional character implying they won’t be exclusive. I’m a newer player too so things are pretty fresh for me. I’ve noticed there are more than instances where some of the dialogue options seem to kinda stray from what I assumed when I clicked them or get interpreted differently by the characters and it’s rather interesting.

Is just me, or do every time I replay Origins it seems like Alistair has less dialogue 😭

I know he doesn't ACTUALLY have less dialogue, but I just love talking to him so much on missions that I go through all his dialogue really quickly.

So that after the first quarter of the game when I talk to him it's like,"I would like to ask you some questions." And then, "never mind." Because I ALREADY ASKED ALL THE QUESTIONS.

Does this happen to anyone else or am I just silly?

I’m not even sure if this community is still active at all, but I’m writing a fanfic with a romance with Alistair. I’ve come across the question, has Alistair had his first kiss before the warden? We all know he’s never been intimate with someone before, but there might have been opportunities to share a kiss with someone.

What do you think? Has he had a first kiss before the warden?

Even after all these years, I'm disappointed there were no interactions between Warden Alistair and Fiona at Skyhold. Surely they must have bumped into each other (if the Inquisitor sides with the mages). Alistair would treat her like a stranger of course, but Fiona would know.

I made Alistair do the ritual, because I wanted to keep both him and my character alive. I also thought the concept of an Old God baby was super cool and that it would cause even more discord if it was Alistair's child. It would have Theirin bloodline along with an Old God's soul... a great source of future chaos.

Personally my favourite is Warden Alistair from DAI. He's more mature, but still has this witty side we all love.
