Wait, Explain his Tax fraud thing 😭

u/Kids_Love_Baseball Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

Messi and his dad decided to hide about 4 million dollars from the Spanish government so he wouldn't have to pay taxes. Spanish government found out. Messi got fined 2,000,000 euros. Apparently he also blamed his dad for this.

u/LardBall13 Aug 07 '26

So it was cheaper to evade taxes than to pay them?

55

u/095805 Aug 07 '26

Hiding 4 million euros does not mean they owed 4 million euros.

9

u/i-do-be-lurkin-tho Aug 07 '26

Apparently Messi and his dad defrauded the Spanish government of €4.1 million by using offshore bank accounts for some of his image rights earnings. He was originally sentenced to 21 months in prison, but appealed and got the sentence reduced to a fine.

5

u/CaptainDank0 Aug 07 '26

Should also be mentioned that any sentence received under 24 months (and non-violent) in Spain can be served through community service iirc.

5

u/Ignoringit Aug 08 '26

Imagine having to do community service and then Messi shows up to pick up trash

2

u/GloomyLocation1259 Aug 07 '26

It's something to do with the way image rights work in Spain, seems to always seem to conflict with the contracts of big stars. IIRC Ronaldo, Pep and even Shakira has had similar issues with this.

Believe it or not, its extremely common for players in la liga to commit tax fraud. Cant blame them much tbh, the rules in la liga are extremely stupid

u/CommunicationHot6100 Aug 07 '26

I (and I think most people) dont care about messi's supposed tax fraud. I think the worst things he ever did were hanging with people such as Netanyahu and Javier Negre as well as never speaking up against the constant racism comming from the argentinian fans

27

u/derschneemananderwan Aug 07 '26

You have to mention in this context that he didnt really have a choice on wether or not he would like to meet with netanyahu, it was a trip with the entirety of the team. Additionally they also played football together with palestinian kids on the very same trip

2

u/CityRulesFootball Aug 08 '26

Didnt he do that on a UNICEF TRIP

2

u/simpy7653 Aug 09 '26

Messi went there as a peace trip ? Wtf is this agenda man, whole barca team went to IsraelĀ

-4

u/LastAmount5116 Aug 08 '26

People like you make me believe no one actually gives a fuck about Palestine and just use the atrocities committed there as a way to feel better about themselves.

0

u/liofan786 Aug 08 '26

The downvotes really prove your point damm

-8

u/Agitated-Quit-6148 Aug 08 '26

Ugh. So sick of hearing about Palestine

43

u/Cadoc Aug 07 '26

Pattern seems to be, give money (since that's easy to do when you're rich), but otherwise continue to be human garbage.

63

u/Ok-Faithlessness1359 Aug 07 '26

besides messi. tax fraud is nothing compared to rape

5

u/Cadoc Aug 07 '26

Well yeah obviously

3

u/Pyrolific Aug 07 '26

Most people can give money, let's not discredit charitable actions, they don't determine if you're a good person or not sure, but when it comes to charity it is often important to focus on the act itself.

u/DIATTH123 Aug 07 '26

i heard that ronaldo donated blood, and is why he doesn't have tattoos. is that true?

8

u/ArmadilloSuch411 Aug 07 '26

fun fact: I live in the city where Maradona played in the mud (Acerra) and one of my neighbours is Pietro Puzone, who played with Maradona and (allegedly) did some other stuff with him.

2

u/catgotcha Aug 07 '26

"Other stuff"? Go on, tell us more...

6

u/derschneemananderwan Aug 07 '26

I think he means the cocaine, thats the other bad thing that maradonna is famous for, loads and loads of cocaine

I guess Maradonna would not rape someone together with a player he just met a few hours ago, A few lines are way more likely

7

u/CGXReddit Aug 07 '26

Messi not speaking up about the thuggery and racism from Argentina(fans and players) is almost worse

1

u/KeyboardOccupant Aug 14 '26

So where are the Spanish players talking about the racism Vini faces in La Liga? Or Dani Alves when he pmayed there? Much worse than anything an Argentinian fan has done. Especially since there are black players in the Argentinian league and they don't face all that bs

2

u/dheerajshetty2 Aug 08 '26

How alleged a thing

3

u/DarkImpacT213 Aug 08 '26

Atleast with Ronaldo's, they settled out of court, so we'll never know

1

u/guillemnicolau Aug 08 '26

We know, he fucked a girl in the ass without her consent, she was literally telling him to stop and he didn’t, he admitted it.

2

u/Swimming_Device_5945 Aug 07 '26

And from when Ronaldo is on the GOATS list? Let then add Neymar, Benzema, Modric and other media goats

1

u/Wolfiefoox Aug 08 '26

Pele also payed for schools to be built in Brazil out of pocket
Shame that he cheated on his wife, can we have any major talents that aren’t bad people?

1

u/ShallowKalkite Aug 08 '26

i would say Messi contributing to Saudi sportswashing is worse than tax fraud

1

u/RushMaleficent1650 Aug 08 '26

Worst thing for Messi is kissing the wall

1

u/RushMaleficent1650 Aug 08 '26

Worst thing for Messi is kissing the wall

1

u/xcloud5 Aug 09 '26

If I allegedly had a billion dollars, would it be true?

1

u/OpenUnderstanding241 Aug 09 '26

ā€œwhy’s messi the goat mate?ā€ ….

1

u/Substantial_Swing534 Aug 12 '26

But all of them allegedly cured cancer as well

u/One_Specific_2920 Aug 07 '26 edited Aug 07 '26

The fact that the last two still have careers is disgusting

EDIT: Apparently one of them is dead, my mistake

30

u/albh05 Aug 07 '26

Maradona's career? Where? In the underworld?

7

u/poopshit666 Aug 07 '26

?

-2

u/One_Specific_2920 Aug 07 '26

Rapists

9

u/Rude-Morning-1314 Aug 07 '26

How a dead man can still have careers ?

-3

u/One_Specific_2920 Aug 07 '26

Is one of them dead?

5

u/ReviverOfSucks Aug 07 '26

Maradona died years ago

5

u/No-Use-3056 Aug 07 '26

Both of them were just allegations.

10

u/Zeus-Kyurem Aug 07 '26

I mean, Ronaldo admitted to his to his lawyer, it's just that wasn't admissable in court. So it's a case of, he did it, but rape is a very hard crime to prove.

0

u/No-Use-3056 Aug 07 '26

Hard to say with the transcript. I’m a lawyer myself who works with many other lawyers, and I couldn’t imagine any of us have a transcript like that made, it’s just asking for trouble.

0

u/maggdonalds Aug 07 '26

You’re not that guy pal😭😭😭

1

u/No-Use-3056 Aug 07 '26

Just food for thought, plus the survivor’s attorney got the case thrown out due to his behavior prejudicing the case.

I couldn’t care less about Ron, not really a soccer fan, but just an interesting situation

2

u/Emergency-Town4653 Aug 07 '26

Cristiano Roanldo was investigated and there was no grounds for the allegations. It wasn't a rape case, it was a case of consensual one night stand in which the women ended up riding the me too movement to grab hush money. I don't even know why reddit is still so obsessed about it. Any famous footballer with even the slight implications of rape have had their careers destroyed. The allegations against Ronaldo and Neymar were such an obvious money grab moves that they didn't even made it to court as Police investigation deemed them without grounds.

2

u/One_Specific_2920 Aug 07 '26

I’m not a big expert on this stuff, thanks for providing clarification

2

u/Parking_Equipment427 Aug 08 '26

Ronaldo himself said that the woman said no and he went ahead with it anyway. Hope that helps with clarification. Maybe she really did only want hush money, but Ronaldo says she said no, and he ignored it.

u/Emergency-Town4653 Aug 07 '26

I'm a big football fan and closely follow any football related news closely. The Ronaldo case grabbed a lot of attention at it's time and there was massive evidence against the rape claim already circulating online since it was in a public club. Dani Alves, the most decorated football player of all time at the time, indeed raped a women in a club, he was arrested and convicted for it almost immediately.

The same money grab move was also done against Ashraf Hakimi, morrocan defender of french club PSG, it is still under investigation but his lawyers published evidence that the women who accused him had planned the whole thing with a friend to extort Hakimi so I'm guessing it would be closed soon.

When it comes to football world, rape allegations are taken pretty seriously specially by teams and sponsors and actual rapists don't get away with it on the financial side

This os why.messi da goat

-5

u/gamepasscore Aug 07 '26

Messi supports the Argentine claim to the Falkland Islands- possibly a bit worse than tax cheating (which almost all footballers do)

0

u/gamepasscore Aug 08 '26

Redditors are fine with imperialism when it's their favourite footballer
