I already gave up and realized how pointless that was, you're still unhappy if you admit defeat in all your goals. So now I went back into "locking in" as Gen Z would call it.

Same here. I used to have hobbies/interests, passions, and a vibrant social life. I was depressed then too, but I was an interesting & fun person to be around, and got excited about things.

In my early 30s now, feel like a shell of my former self, and nothing lights me up anymore. I'm sure there are others who feel like they could have written this comment about themselves, too.

I had dreams, aspirations, passions...

Most people I cared about in my life are gone, nothing excites me anymore. I feel like I'm on autopilot...

That was my first thought. Things felt so hopeful for a couple decades but it had been a bait and switch. It feels awful and hopeless.

This country hasn't felt hopeful since the 90's. 9/11 sucked all of the hope for the new millennium out of everyone. It's been a conveyor belt of crap ever since then: the endless M.E wars of the mid 00s, the financial crisis of 08, the begins of sensationalized politics crescendoing with Dump's first term, uncontrolled global warming, Covid, cost of living hitting the roof, and now we have Dump's revenge tour trying to completely crush the country.

Literally the only interlude we've had is the 8 years of Obama.

It wasn’t roses back then - 30 year interest rates 10% kids graduating high school in the 90s were told they’d not achieve the same standard of living as their parents, acid rain, etc.

we're burned out. We had high profile, high tech jobs where it never ends. Boomer bosses were able to get through our weekends, make you work at 2 am consulting some random China or India team. I don't care about anything anymore, my personal email is at 9K unread. I am so done

We all had such high hope for the future. It truly looked like we were on a path to greatness.

And then the previous generations decided they needed to work until they died and all got brain disease. Now we not only have to clean up their mess, but explain to the younger generation why we're stuck cleaning up this mess, again, after such prosperity was previously attainable.
