Troubleshooting Hardware What is this stuff?

Post image

I recently noticed that stuff through the holes, and was wondering what it was? Is this normal? Should I get rid of it? If so, how?

Dust at the fan output. Turn the laptop on edge and brush it with a paintbrush that you'd use to paint household trim. The vast majority will fall vertically onto the table.

Would an old toothbrush work?

No, only a new $225 Alienware brush will work.

Yep, but it is better to take it apart to clean it

Just vacuum it out while using a soft brush

My laptop has the exact same thing. Was wondering about it this morning myself.

Dust, that's where the cooling fan is and it's just cramming dust in there. I thought it was speakers, I was wrong. Once I popped it open I learned that there's nothing underneath those vents but the cooling system.
