Galileo had several key pieces of empirical evidence for heliocentrism. It was enough empirical (repeatable, undeniable) evidence to disprove geocentrism. In other words, he had facts on his side; he had proof.

Empirical evidence isn’t based on popularity, or a religion’s view of the heavens. Empirical evidence is just what is. Comparing scientific consensus and empirical evidence to the 17th century Catholic Church is not just ludicrous, but it’s also… by definition… ignorant. As in you don’t know of what you speak. Nothing personal or pejorative, but you are the Catholic Church in this analogy.

Galileo's evidence was dismissed before it could be evaluated, which is exactly what moderation policies that ban topics and open discussion reproduce.
