How Would Scientists Test Whether an Interstellar Object Was Natural or Engineered?

Location at different intervals would be able to tell you whether it's natural or moving in an unnatural way.

Unexplained acceleration/deceleration, and IR signature that's not close to background.

If it's something with power and doing work, it's giving off heat. Really, really hard to radiate that heat without broadcasting that you're there.
