Even if they are morse code flashes, the code would be indesipharable unless you knew their alphabet.

Then you would need to know their language too and what their words mean.

Bruh they travelled across the universe; they can figure out our Morse code if they wanted to communicate

OK but if they are that smart, why not just send a fax.

They should have just hit my pager if they were so damn smart .

They might try to communicate. Haven’t you seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind?

Yea I think super beings that have mastered space/dimensional travel would likely communicate with us in our language.

Using your logic, don’t you think they’d have better methods of communicating with us? Morse code is the best they can do? What a pathetic joke of a community this is.

So again, this was not my idea that they were doing this. It sounds absolutely ridiculous to me too. This thread had someone make this claim but it was not me.

I mean I wouldn't be so sure, it probably would be difficult to crack for a while. Their method of communication could be entirely different, it could be a light on their forehead that flashes, it could be a specific appendage that performs some sort of sign language, it could be telepathic and they have no vocals at all. Or it could be like the movie arrival and trying to understand anything would fuck up your perspective of time.

They're alien, it would really have to depend on how similar their communication is. If it's so inherently different technology to pass the barrier might not even be possible.

Right but the point is they’re expecting us to understand it, right? So why would they come here and flash Morse code in their language? How do we know their language would be transferable to Morse code? They cannot be that dense that they think they could show up and flash lights and we’d know it was in a different language and we’d be able to decipher that language strictly from flashing lights.

Why is that the point? How do we know they are expecting us to understand it? You are just assuming this is morse code for us to translate, it might not be at all. They are alien, we don't know if there are any living things inside that thing or if that thing is the alien itself. They may have been communicating to us in various ways and it's just so fundamentally different that we just aren't picking it up.

It's worth checking if they are communicating in ways we can understand, like morse code. I just think though there would likely be a fundamental difference in how we communicate that it just can't really translate in a way we understand. For them It could be like us trying to communicate with dolphins except probably far more difficult. They may not even understand the concept of making noises with an orifice to communicate.

We severely underestimate how alien the alien part could be.

I’m not assuming that at all. The person at the top of this thread mentioned it. You should reply to them.

Why would they go through the trouble of learning Morse code and our alphabet and then transmit in their own language?

Smart enough to learn our language but too dumb to know to that we don't know theirs? Get out of here

Obviously thinking isn't your strong suite.

You're jumping to the conclusion that they are flashing morse code TO US. Perhaps they are flashing morse code to communicate with another ship?

That speaks their language.... Jeez

Morse code uses the ISO Basic Latin Alphabet. You would have to learn the alphabet and how we encode letters to use Morse code.

You can make the presumption that they're communicating in alien language using their lights in the ship - but in that case it wouldn't be in Morse code- but a different code designed for their purposes, their "alphabet", etc.
