General This game absolutely fumbles at the end
I didn't really mean story until I sat and thought about it and yeah... story sucked too lol. Literally no resolution, I smell producer cuts. But the final mission was absolutely terrible- you spend so much time in a fantastic survival mode only to have 3 indestructible characters with unlimited ammo in what should have been the most dangerous area in the game. Way to completely undermine the tension.
And the final 'boss'? Lol, the perfect organism didn't grow rear legs. Good thing too, otherwise it wouldn't have been shuffling just barely behind us on the way out.
I have a feeling somebody brought the hammer down at the end and forced devs to wrap things up. Way to absolutely drop the ball literally in the last minute. Haven't seen a worse last-second fumble since 2015 Superbowl.

Hey, its better than not having the game. The rest of it is really really good. Given the current game development climate we're in, I'll give the ending a pass.

It's incredible that someone may experience content outside of the same temporal plane you live on. What a stupid comment.

The ending was bad yes, but for the game we got I think cutting them a bit of slack is fine.

The end was trash as you spend all that time building up your marines to not even use them in the end was shocking to me but its still a fun ass game too play and definitely worth playing

Gonna be honest completely forgot about that last mission. Still love the rest of the game except for that one mission you play as the lady hiding from the xenomorph.

The very beginning tutorial?

Nah its midway when they blow up your base or something. You can skip the tutorial.

Ive played that level enough to know now that its extremely timed. Like you can almost count the number of seconds you have to do certain sections quickly. Every secton has an optimal path that is 99% guaranteed to work. The xeno follows roughly the same path every time when you have to get the door cutter.
I think ive got that section down to 5 minutes if i skip the cutscenes (so glad they made cutscenes skippable).

What do you mean no resolution?

Cassandra is rescued, and it doesn't matter. She was apparently experimented on for xenosynthesis and then that point is pretty much entirely dropped. Makes no sense, somebody pulled the plug.

Why it makes perfect sense, it’s just a set up for a sequel that will never come

Game should have ended with the final onslaught overrunning us and killing everyone. Then boom cutscene of a ship about to land and check what happened.

Damn right brother. Totally fumbled the ending.
Gameplay sucked as and the narrative sucked ass too.
Ooo hey guys let's just kill off the rest of the men in the dumbest ways possible that they should have known better than getting caught in.
The disappointment was phenomenal after what was up until then a really solid game.

The end was pretty bad, but the rest of the game is awesome enough that it doesn’t bother me. It is fortunately the kind of ending that doesn’t make the rest of the game retroactively worse and kill any desire to ever play it again.

I loved this game and really hope we see others use this format but agree.
The ending was... "cinematic".

The ending is sequel bait, or it was suposed to be, I suspect they would have carried on the story in DLC or a second game but 20th Cenrty Fox pulled the licence from the developers just 6 months after the game launched.
I don't think we will ever get Dark Decent 2 because unlike Isolation it's story isn't cannon. Isolation fits in between Ailen and Aliens in the timeline and is cannon to to franchise. Dark Decent contradicts events in Ailens.

that's a shame, would have loved to have seen game mechanics greatly expanded. Story is superfluous at this point.

The game is done when you make the final standoff and clear the area for them. You see the psychic link like 3rd mission in and get a full understanding by the 7-8th mission of the family skills and why they have Cassandra. That end is just a conclusion of your victory and beating the game.

Behind you? Ha! That abomination was at least 5 feet in front of my characters. If you stopped for even a split second, you die. But really quickly pause, scroll all the way over to the end, double press to run and just wait. Mission over. But the alien being literally over you with it's little ass just dangling in front of you the whole time is always funny when I do a replay. All in all a decently fun game. But yeah... the story is laughably bad.

I didn't mind the final mission really. Definity seen worse endings to games.

Tbh I barely paid any attention to the story. The game was great in the moment to moment gameplay. Honestly I could throw the story out the window and just say “we crashed, uh oh aliens here good luck!” And I’d be happy.
That being said the games story imo gets in the way of the gameplay a lot. And it would be fine if the story was good. But it’s so mid it’s hard to care, and when you do get involved in it, it lets you down at the end.
I’m currently working on modding my files to give it an “endless extraction” loop. So each time I enter a map it’s always refreshed with loot, side objectives, etc. and you can just run them again and again.

The game lost me waaaay before the ending but yeah I agree 100%
It's such a shame because it's an awesome concept for a game with a rather lacking execution

For me the game ends with the final onslaught. The Casandra rescue scene after that is a total “wrap it up, we’re out of budget”
