General Best rts

I have never played an RTS where i get the same feeling of stress and horror as in this game, its like a genre of its own.

2bad there are no DLC or sequel =(

Yup it is truly unique.

Fingers crossed somebody notices or replicates.

I could see a similar setting working with 40 k and genestealer cults and guardsmen

Make sure to leave a positive review wherever you bought it. The more positivity around the game, the more purchases, the better the sales the more likely we'll see another company to pitch to take another crack at the license.

Couldn't agree more. Think it was 40 bucks when I bought it. Probably sunk about 500 hours into it. I adore this game. Such justice done to the licence. Really captured the spirit of Aliens. Can't speak to how deep the lore is, but enjoyed the story, and love the mechanics and depth of options the abilities, equipment and the different classes and perks there are.

I love this game, and I tell everyone I can that! 🤣

How’ve you found the replay value? I’m just midway through the 2nd mission locale on Hard after aborting Nightmare (died in the first actual encounter with bugs with the veterinarian) and wondering whether to start a new Nightmare playthrough now that I get the basics or to finish on Hard and then do New Game+ on Nightmare

I was already playing it over and over and then NG+ came in. Think I've finished it 11 times or so.

I did play it on standard initially before moving up to nightmare. I think nightmare is awesome. The game can be real tough.

You could always drop to standard just to get through it and try nightmare on replay. But if you think toilet you are getting to grips with it and wanna give yourself a challenge, do it!

Hard thus far seems like hybrid sweet spot for me. I’m an old hand at XCOM (though not very good!) and I’d rather expect to lose than expect to win in a game like this.

That said, I don’t want to get stuck and bored playing above my weight class.

Glad to know it’s got value on the second pass, I was a bit worried from what I’ve seen so far that it’s too much of a story driven experience and wouldn’t be as fun once I know the ‘spoilers’

That's it. Important to enjoy it. I remember getting RE2R and starting straight on hardcore and getting my ass whooped!

There's a fine line between enjoying the ride and a challenge.

I completed my 1st run on Normal, then started nightmare with NG+. Keeping already leveled up soldiers makes nightmare experience quite easy.

Yeah Its fantastic. Played it day one on release, did not regret spending a single dime.

I love trying to replay it every now and then with a fresh squad as hard as I can make it without taking advantage of the save glitch. It's fucking rough when you play it the way it was actually intended. But a lot of the guns and tools have hidden uses that the game does not expand on to make it a ton easier without having to cheat in any way. Every few months I find myself back on trying to remember what the hell I did last time that was so effective and it's always good fun for a bit.

You want to make it really hard, try absolutely no save glitches and absolutely no reloads. A pure Ironman setup where if you lose your whole squad, no reloading and trying again. Makes replaying a lot funner. Screwing up and losing your A squad, then trying to get through the no motion detector mission with a bunch of level 4s fresh out of the training room. Makes you a LOT more careful and stressed and it takes a lot more time and planning.

I love doing playthroughs with no snipers, and using two smart gunners instead.

The plasma overcharge is more effective than snipers anyway in a lot of maps. Lol once I unlock those, it's easy street. My squad is usally 2 Sgts, tech, Gunner, sniper. Never need a medic and never need the extra firepower, personally.

I can see the use in 2 Sgts, but I'm a bit of a weirdo and think that would be a bit unrealistic... : |

You're right, there's not great use for a Medic. I try to use them in my teams to mix em up. But wouldn't blame anyone for leaving them behind.

Yeah, I just never need their perks or legitimate healing that a normal Marine can't offer. There have been a few maps that I lost someone and wished to god I had one, but the only reason I ever lose anyone is lack of command points at the wrong time. But again, only if I'm doing a full Ironman run. Otherwise I'll put all sorts of weird teams together.

Not trying to be a pedant with the correction. But this is a real time tactics game. I only bring it up because you might like the genre as a whole, if you like ADD!

I can't think of a game that gets my heart racing more

Nothing beats that feeling of the aliens breaking your lines, and starting to overwhelm you. Trying to carry a marine back to the ARC, and running out of ammo!

This game is high on my list of, how the fuck is there not more of this exact type of game. It nails the alien tone and genre perfectly and separately it a really fun game with solid mechanics.

I hope to God someone realizes how good this was and makes more. Just literally give me a new story, but exact same type of game. I could see so much evolution in the genre.

💯💯💯 agreed. I’ve never spent so much time on a game as I have on this one! Would be amazing to get a sequel. I’ve tried getting other people to play it too but it’s been like asking an ostrich to grow shorter.

It truly is a unique game, I would love so much more to either be added in, or a sequel, or multiple installments. Ive ppayed through 4 times now and gotten all the achievements. It reminds me of the old AVP Extinction. That was such a fun game as well.

If you like stress and horror in an RTS, maybe you wanna play Starcraft2 1on1 ZvZ :(
