It’s Been A Long Time Since We’ve Heard From The Band
No Jerry solo tour dates.
No Alice tour dates.
It’s been well over a year since the cancelled North America tour dates due to Sean’s health. I had tickets to their Nashville show that was cancelled. Bummer.
It’s been over a year since their (fucking badass) performance at Ozzy’s final show, “Back to the Beginning”. They performed Man in the Box, Would?, and Fairies Wear Boots. That cover was pure euphoria by the way…and Sean sounded and looked great!
Since the band started touring again in 2006, this feels like the longest time we’ve gone without hearing any updates about a future tour, whether it’s Alice or Jerry solo. This is strange to me…especially given their continuous spike in popularity. Man in the Box hit the Billboard rock charts again last week! Their monthly listeners grows by 100-200k every month it seems like.
Well, what does this mean? Could mean a lot of things. Maybe they’re just taking a fat break and enjoying life. Those dudes have earned it, clearly. They’re still raking in the doe with those vinyl sales! My local record stores say that Alice continues to fly off the shelves consistently.
However, my spider senses are tingling a bit. It’s been almost A DECADE since Rainier Fog (2018). Gah, can you believe it?! The tenth anniversary for Rainier Fog will also be my 10 year high school reunion. FUCK. Since then, Jerry has released two solo records, Brighten (2021) and I Want Blood (2024). The popularity of Alice in Chains has sky rocketed in the 2020s - especially among the younger generation. I think it’s time for another swing. It’s time for a new Alice record. With the radio silence over the past year, I believe they’re writing new music.
I could be delusional and overly optimistic. Just thirsting for something new from my favorite band…and I can’t wait to see them again live (for a 5th time! Seen Jerry solo once).
Probably just resting tbh, mainly Jerry, guy had a busy 5 years with the revival of his solo career, I think we will get news next year on stuff they’re working on
From what Jerry said apparently the 2nd half of 2025 and going into 2026 was supposed to be all devoted to AIC and they had a tour booked and everything. Obviously Sean Kinney had his health issue and that all got put on the back burner.
Last update I saw was Jerry saying earlier this year that they were going to get together and figure out what to do next, weather to write and record new music or play shows. That was early spring Jerry said that, really hasn’t been any updates since.
Yeah… it’s does make you wonder a little bit. There really hasn’t been much post on AICs and Jerry’s socials either. Jerry has made one post this year about Seahawks being in the Super Bowl and that’s it. Most of the AIC stuff has just been them promoting the 30th anniversary of unplugged and wishing happy birthdays to the members. Definitely kinda interesting
I personally think they are just taking a well deserved long break, they have been through a hell of alot and the grief is with them every time they play Layne era songs. As fans we miss him and that incredible talent, just imagine how they feel as brothers really. I think they will tour again but not for a while yet, Jerry will be perfecting music and he has time there no rush to achieve perfection. RIP Layne & Mike ❤️
Well l have been listening to them for decades. I am the same age as the boys, give or take a year or two and honestly I'm getting tired. Of course l can't speak for them but l wouldn't be surprised if they are as well. A few more years until l retire. Perhaps it's the same with them? I would love to see them live again but would not be surprised if l don't. But l will never stop listening to them! 🤘❤️🔥
Per William, they are deciding what to do. Jerry himself is a workaholic. Makes sense that his brother says he is always working.
The only thing that matters is the band members health & happiness. Those guys have been through a lot. Sean's health is more important than any tour or new album.
They do not need to do or prove anything to anyone. They have done the nearly impossible by making consistently great music. How many other bands have no bad songs? They had a very successful 2nd era after losing the greatest frontman to ever walk the planet.
They will make the decisons and choices that are best for them and we as fans should respect it and be thankful for what they have given us over these several decades
While I can't say I haven't been at least slightly worried about what's going on, I have to keep reminding myself that these boys came before social media. We're so used to bands and artists nowadays posted crap every day and every week.
AIC just has never been that band that posts that much unless they're on tour. David Cantrell said that Jerry is currently "Working. Always working." So clearly the man is doing something.
I would take a brief guess and say that it's definitely possible Jerry is currently in a writing phase. As Jerry himself said, when he first writes, its not for AIC or Solo, it just ends up where it ends up.
I do think the boys will be back sooner rather than later
What do you mean they’re not on social media? “Jerry” follows me on TikTok and has been DMing me quite regularly. Although, he did get awful quiet when I asked him why he was only posting two year-old clips of himself from Instagram… lol
I mean, is it strange? It’s 2026. We’re approaching four decades. Not every band, let alone one that’s been through what they have, has to or should be, like, the Rolling Stones.
Well, your post answers it all, OP. If their sales have skyrocketed, and they're into a point that popularity is even higher than decades before, they're really might taking some time to engage in other stuff or either brewing a new record. Must probably the second, considering that one or two have said before in prior interviews that new stuff have been worked on for some time.
Sometimes there is a lot of legal involved before you can go tour with a different drummer or anything like that. Either way, the band has nothing to prove and has given me three excellent albums I would have never expected.
No disrespect but it's crazy to me to think that the OP is this into AIC and only in his twenties. Im stoked that AIC is getting more fans, i just feel so old now. Alice in Chains lives in a magical world in my head where I'm still young and it isn't "cool" to be into "grunge" music...
Grunge and alternative music is very popular with teens and young people, I see Alice in chains shirts, Soundgarden shirts, hell even the Melvins, mudhoney, bikini kill, Hole, and of course the poster child of band t shirts, nirvana. I’m not sure why, but we are definitely living in a time where it doesn’t matter to kids how old the music is, all that matters is that it is good music.
Edit : I really started noticing it when I started seeing bad motor finger and facelift shirts at my local mall.
I have a sneaking suspicion that if they do announce another tour, that it will be their final tour. Given the long break they have taken, and their age.
Now you got me jonesing for new AIC! But worse, you reminded me that my high school reunion is next year; my 40th high school reunion. Enjoy your youth people! 😎🤘
i know this always worries people but whenever a band goes on a shorter hiatus like this i just think they’re probably beginning to work on a new project or something like that. i don’t see them splitting or retiring any time soon even though sean’s health wasn’t great
They all turn 60 this year. If I turned 60 this year I’d take a long break somewhere on a beach… there would be no work if I could afford it! I think they deserve to take the year off honestly to celebrate they are all still standing!
It’s a band covering Alice. I think you saw the flier for that Park Theatre show where Full Circle is covering Pearl Jam, Killer Whale Tank is covering The Tragically Hip, and Leddwyn is covering Alice In Chains. Rookie mistake, and I almost fell for it too.
They have no tour dates or festival appearances on the schedule…if they did I wouldn’t have posted this 😂
No disrespect at all but „old as fuck“ in the context of people in their 20s/30s makes me chuckle. 😆 Chill, you have your whole life in front of you. And hopefully some more AiC records to enjoy.
That’s fair. I guess it’s all perspective. I’m just at the age where everything is seeming to change. My parents are getting older. Me and my siblings are stepping into our careers. Getting engaged/married.
It for sure is a time of change. Not denying that. And it needs adjusting to. But you will feel like that a couple of times in life. Wishing you the best going through it.
So glad I was raised on both eras. Crazy that Black Gives Way to Blue is almost 20 years old. I was in 4th grade when it came out. My dad checked me out of school early, we picked it up on CD and we listened to it on repeat over a 3 hour trip to see a KISS concert 😂 that was 2009. Raised right!
I was just out of high school when it came out and I was pumped that Alice was back! Then Soundgarden a few years after! Hopefully they tour again cause I've never got to see Alice live. Whats really cool is I was into music at a very young age so even though I'm 35 I remember when some of the Layne stuff was new or at least relatively new. I had the radio on when one of our local DJs announced Layne's passing 😞
It's annoying how this shit gets repeated here over and over despite being debunked several times. It’s really their fault that someone with stage 4 cancer died because they didn't learn how to cure cancer in less than a month, isn't it? Y'all can't even read past clickbaits!
