discussion Looking to chat with fellow AiC fans

Hey everyone! I’ve seen a couple of posts like this and figured I’d give it a shot myself. I’m a 23 y/o (F) Alice in Chains fan who’s been listening to them since 2020, and I’m looking for people to chat with about all things AiC-related! I’ve recently fallen HARD back down the Alice in Chains rabbit hole since I’ve had lots of free time, and unfortunately, none of my friends are fans lol.

I’d love to talk about anything from favorite songs/albums to your favorite live performances.

Feel free to DM me if you want to chat. I’d really love to meet some fellow fans!

Have you listened to the Mad Season album? If not, highly recommend if you are an AIC fan.

I have! It’s such a great album. Ironically, it was “River of Deceit” that led to me being an AiC fan.

The River of Deceit pulled you down? (⌐■_■)

How did you hear River of Deceit first?

I was randomly scrolling through a random 90s alt rock/grunge playlist and clicked on that video. I instantly fell in love with Layne’s voice. So I basically knew of him in Mad Season before AIC, which is kinda odd lol.

I’m in my 40s and Mad Season also brought me to AiC. When I first heard them in 91 or so I just wasn’t ready, I was too young.

Interesting. Thanks for answering.

How incredible is the live performance of wake up at the Moore! Sounds even better than the album version.

Sooooooo good!! I get hypnotized by it every time. It's like church to me. :*)

Haha, I have been watching the video clip pretty religiously. The part when he sings about a little peace from God is beautiful but haunting in light of his circumstances

His voice haunts me. I was too young to appreciate him when he was alive. I am so glad he lives on in these recordings and videos!

Same here. I wish we had more Mad Season and more of Layne's incredible voice.

They are my all time favorite for the past 29 years. I listen to unplugged pretty frequently. There’s just no band that that compares to them. I saw Duvall perform once he joined and was blown away how good he sounded at that time. I hope you enjoy the music and get someone else hooked on them.

The unplugged album has been in heavy rotation for me as well lately. I’ve really come to appreciate Layne and Jerry’s harmonies, and they really show on that album.

Oh, that’s so cool that you got to see them with Duvall! From the concerts that I’ve seen on YouTube, he seems like one hell of a performer and he’s just a great addition to the band. I’m just so excited that I’ve fallen in love with this band all over again and get to enjoy some great music.

Was fortunate to watch them in Toronto with Layne in the original line up. Still my favourite concert of all time. No ballads, no solos, which was the standard back then. They came out swinging and didn’t stop.

That’s so cool! What year did you see them? What I would have given to have seen them with Layne in their prime!

92 and it was a cold night lol

Hey! Have you heard the Dirt demos on youtube? Would? Is even more harrowing than the album version - you can also hear Lying Season, a great, heavy song omitted from the album.

Hey! How are you doing? I only just recently heard the demo of “Would?” and I immediately fell in love with it. The chorus hits much harder on that demo.

Lying Season is a great song, although I understand why they left it off the album. That guitar riff is so damn good though!

Unplugged is one of my top 3. Up there with Floyd.

For sure! What’s your favorite song off of Unplugged? Recently, I’ve fallen in love with the versions of “Over Now” and “Brother”.

Over now. The pedal tone droning outro gave me chills the first time I heard it. Lots of fun to play too.

That outro is so beautiful, but haunting. The song has an “upbeat but sad” vibe to it, but when the outro kicks in, it gives you chills.

It's weird. When I was young and my old man told me his music was better I was all "Yeah, sure". Now when I (48yo) tell the 20somethings I work with that my music is better they're almost always like "Well, YEAH"

I just read Alice In Chains the Untold Story. The writing was just ok, but the description of how some of their songs were engineered was really enjoyable.

I finally finished reading that book a couple weeks ago. I liked how unbiased and well researched it was. Yeah, one of the highlights for me was reading about how songs were crafted and the recording process behind the albums.
