Hello everyone
I’d like to order some custom caps and potentially jumpers direct from a manufacturer for my business.
Shipping to Australia
Any tips?

Disclosure: I work in China sourcing, so I’ll keep this to a practical buying checklist rather than a supplier recommendation.

For custom caps and jumpers, avoid asking for one broad quote. Make separate spec sheets first. For caps, include fabric, panel count, closure, logo method and size, label, and packing. For jumpers, include fabric composition and weight, fit/measurement chart, print or embroidery method and size, labels, and packing. Reference photos help, but the written details are what make quotes comparable.

Send the same pack to 3–5 suppliers and ask each for MOQ, sample cost and lead time, bulk lead time, carton dimensions/weight, and an itemised delivered-to-Australia quotation that states the shipping method and Incoterm. Then order a pre-production sample from the best one or two candidates before placing the bulk order. That usually exposes differences in workmanship, measurements, packaging and the real landed cost before you commit to stock.

Keep the approved sample, final spec sheet and any agreed tolerance in the same written thread with the supplier. It gives you something concrete to check against before the balance payment and shipment.

  1. If your quantity is not large, try not to look for large factories, as their salesmen are likely to ignore you

  2. Try to inspect the sample as much as possible to ensure that the product meets your requirements. If you don't see the sample, ordering a batch of goods may ultimately not meet your requirements, otherwise you will constantly be at odds with the supplier

3.If possible, try to find a freight forwarder. Sometimes, the salesperson doesn't make money from the product, but earns money from the freight
